Apocalypse Now and Dracula Getting DVD Makeovers
In story from Home Media Retailing, Kim Aubry, DVD producer for none other than Francis Ford Coppola, he has been working for the past 15 months on a "kitchen sink version of an Apocalypse Now DVD."
According to the story, "it will include both the original and Redux versions of the film, as well as a wealth of new documentaries that dive deep into the editing, the sound, the music and other aspects of the film's production."
The current title is Apocalypse Now: The Complete Dossier.
As Coppola was one of the first proponents of "electronic cinema" (using greenscreens and other technology to redesign how certain films are made), it should surprise nobody that according to Aubry, some of these features will be "in high def."
Aubry is also the person behind ZAP (Zoetrope Aubry Productions) which is American Zoetrope's "pure-play DVD production company."
Another one of Coppola's films that will be getting a makeover on DVD is Dracula. Among other things, this will contain an "art student viewing option."
"Whenever moments in the film appear that have interesting references to art, a button will appear," Aubry said. "They can select it, and the film will stop, and they'll see the storyboard or the painting the setting is based on."
Apocalypse Now was released August 15th, 1979 and stars Marlon Brando, Martin Sheen, Robert Duvall, Frederic Forrest, Sam Bottoms, Laurence Fishburne, Albert Hall, Harrison Ford. The film is directed by Francis Ford Coppola.
Dracula was released November 13th, 1992 and stars Gary Oldman, Winona Ryder, Anthony Hopkins, Keanu Reeves, Richard E. Grant, Cary Elwes, Bill Campbell, Sadie Frost. The film is directed by Francis Ford Coppola.
