According to The Hollywood Reporter, Yelchin will play a teen version of Reese, the man who fathered world savior John Connor in the original "Terminator" film.
Christian Bale will play John Connor in the time-traveling third sequel to the 1984 sci-fi action film, produced by the Halcyon Co. and set for a Warner Bros. release in summer 2009.
Reese, one of the children who survived a machine-driven nuclear holocaust, befriends Marcus (Sam Worthington), an early edition of the Terminator cyborg played in previous films by Arnold Schwarzenegger.
In Terminator 4, the character is a young version of the one played by Michael Biehn, who traveled back in time in the original to impregnate Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton) and father the world's future savior.
The film picks up with their son (Bale), now in his 30s, fighting desperately to save a decimated civilization against machines that have taken control. It's unclear if the father and child reunion is only a cyborg motion away in the new film.
Production is scheduled to start in early May.
Terminator Salvation was released May 21st, 2009 and stars Christian Bale, Sam Worthington, Moon Bloodgood, Helena Bonham Carter, Anton Yelchin, Jadagrace, Bryce Dallas Howard, Common. The film is directed by McG.

I'm a huge Anton fan and I know he doesn't look the part, but he didn't in Alpha Dog either. He is a really good actor though. So he gets a ton of credit from me. All of you who are dissing him need to get a life or go to h*ll. He is an amazingly sweet person, I met him and he's not a sissy queer, like you think. He's quite attractive and has the best personality and disposition (he loves women too and they love him too!), despite the fact he's Autistic and Jewish.

I have high hopes for this movie. The first three were awesome even though the third one had a kinda crappy John O'connor. still, the movie had a good plot line and i liked it.
Plus this movie has batman in it. That guy is a really good actor. better get more people like him on the cast insteadof people like this guy.

*sigh* ~for god sakes~ No CivilCowboy. I'm just staying optimistic since I don't know Anton Yelchin. He could be bad, he could be good. We won't know until we see him on the big screen. Filming for T4 hasn't even begun. I like to stay open-minded.

Your still not following me on this ramasscreen. In the original Terminator, Reese was late 20-30ish. And if you watch it and pay attention, Reese says that he was raised in warfare. So obviously the war between man and machine had been already going on for some years by the time he went back in time to protect Sarah. Therefore, it only makes more sense to have a young actor play him as a teenager in this one since the time line takes place just a few years after the cyborg-caused nuclear holocaust, making him a child when it happened, hence the quote in this article, "Reese, one of the children who survived a machine-driven nuclear holocaust,...".
And come on guys can we give Anton some slack? We've only seen a couple pictures and your all acting as if the world has stopped turning all because he looks younger. Besides, remember when everybody dissed Daniel Craig when we learned he was to be the new James Bond? All because he's more clean-cut and god forbid he have blonde hair. Look at how badass he turned out to be. I felt like an idiot for making fun of him and being so judgmental solely based on vanity. RELAX.
And no AndrewRyan, it won't be called just Terminator 4. Its only the working title since Warner Bros. dropped Salvation: The Future Begins. And the title of Future Wars in my opinion is terrible.
