Ant-Man could possibly shoot this year says Edgar Wright
So when Kevin Feige revealed yesterday that two as-yet-unnamed Marvel franchise movies were going to be announced soon, most assumed that this upcoming tie-in to Marvel's The Avengers was not going to be appearing on that impending production slate.
Now, though, if we are to believe Edgar Wright himself, Ant-Man is one of those two impending Marvel stand-alone adventures. First, he gave the Empire Podcase this quote.
"Things are happening, and other things are happening on other things as well. There's some interesting plates spinning and I ideally hope I'll be shooting this year."
/film then reached out to Edgar Wright to clarify that he was indeed talking about shooting Ant-Man this year, not just The World's End. The director confirmed that, stating the following.
"So as not to jinx things, I am going to remain spectacularly vague on this. Let's just say I hope to shoot some Ant-Man & The World's End this year.
So, it looks like he is taking a page from his The Adventures of Tintin collaborator Steven Spielberg by attempting to shoot these two movies in the same year. Its possible one or both productions could bleed into 2013. It's also possible that neither film could go before cameras at all this year.
"I get quite superstitious because I don't feel like anybody reading magazines and websites and stuff - quite understands how hard and long it takes. Because the film websites update hourly, it's like 'What's the fucking hold up? Just make it. Why isn't it coming out tomorrow?' But every film that I've made has taken like three years. Each one, it's been three years between movies. I would love for that gap to be shorter, but the truth is there - it's almost like a holding pattern. There are planes in the air and you have to figure out which one is going to land before they all crash like Die Hard 2."
Ant-Man comes to theaters November 6th, 2015. The film is directed by Edgar Wright.

@gandoff2169 Hmm, that's an interesting point you have made there about the special effects.

@themoviefanatic Well to a point. Considering how much special effects have come since then, I think it will be way better look and feel. But the real question is how will they do insect interaction in the story. Will it involve a ant farm, or wild adventure into a real insect hive. Could have a whole intro movie based on his discovery of shrinking and insect communication with little need of a villain. Cheesy does come to mind when I first thought about this movie. But with the special effects of today, it could work. Think Avatar meets Shrunk movies.

@ejk1 That is true, but I'm not much of a Scarlet Witch fan to be honest. I just want to see Vision somehow/somewhere in one of these next two films.

@incmob I kinda gotta agree with you. DOn't get me wrong, I LOVED The Avengers movie and think adding more characters (in a sensible way) is great, but Ant-Man is gonna be VERY hard to translate to film in an interesting way that doesn't make it look cheesy. They have to focus more on the man behind the helmet, Pym, than his ability to not look cheesy.
Let's be real... the first thing people are gonna think of is Honey I Shrunk The Kids... and that was the definition of a cheesy movie. If this movie doesn't have a KILLER story and character dev behind, its gonna end up just like Green Lantern. Great graphics. Little of everything else.

@ejk1 True, very true. Don't see why it shouldn't be used either. It's been done before.

@bawnian-dexeus you're right, but that scene would serve as one great moment of a man that has hit rock bottom.

You know, of all the things that heroes and villains have done that I' e read, slapping Wasp out of sheer anger or blind anger is nothing.

@gandoff2169 Why do you think it would be like that?

@skywise@ That moment shows a man that has gone beyond the pale. I think it's a necessary moment.

I'll pass. I just do not see the money making potential of this movie. I rate it right up there with the need for another Howard The Duck. I see Ant-Man as one of the founding members of the Avengers, and to not have any reference to that would be bullsh*t.

@ i also read an article:
http://www.jimshooter.com/2011/03/hank-pym-was-not-wife-beater.html
which shed a little insight on what happed during the creative process. Since you probably wont read it i will just tell you that it was supposed to be an accident but the artist did not have time to re-draw the panel. unfortunatly he will be forever known as "wife-beater"

Edgar Wright is clever no doubt and Hank Pym IS an Avenger. However, I am really interested to see Johnny Depp as The Night Stalker (if its based on the famous serial killer - that guy was extremly demented)

this is good to tie him in to the Avengers but I see this movie doing below what Thor and CA made. It will appeal to the fans but I am not sure it will draw in casual fans as much as the more popular characters.

Ghostman
@ejk1 Yeah I noticed that "Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde" character dynamic in him. I was going through one of his stories at the bookstore today and came across one scene where he almost resembled Gollum and was talking "good" to himself, but when he faced himself in the mirror he was all "evil psycho". I was like, that's some deep stuff i hope they include with the movie.

@ghostman Can they make it fun like those films? Sure, as long as some seeds are dropped in that illustrate Hank Pym's mental instability. Seriously, the dude has issues. That's why all this nonsense about the Vision creating Ultron bugged me. Pym created Ultron, and copied his brain waves into the robot. Those patterns are a very confused and disturbing thing, and they drove a robot INSANE! So in short, yes it can have its light moments, as long as darkness is added to illustrate Pym's unstable nature.
