Disney prepping Ant-Man?
This film has been rumored to be in development for some time, allegedly with Edgar Wright attached to direct. Comic legend Stan Lee also raised some eyebrows with a recent Twitter post in February.
To make up for my previous grievous error, here's a little item that may have escaped you. Marvel is prepping a movie starring-- Ant-Man!
Ant-Man isn't the only domain name that Disney recently secured, though. It seems they might be exploring spin-off features with the Cars character Mater with websites like LunarMater.com, MoonMater.com, RightStuffMater.com, MaterPI.com and InvestigatorMater.com. Here's a list of the other domain names the studio has bought.
- A True Story (ATRUESTORY-MOVIE.COM and ATRUESTORY-THEMOVIE.COM)
- CA Rancho Film (CARANCHOFILM.COM), Classy Lady (CLASSYLADYMOVIE.COM)
- Denver International Airport (DENVERINTERNATIONALAIRPORTMOVIE.COM)
- Genneris (GENNERIS.COM and GENNERISMOVIE.COM)
- Great Lengths (GREATLENGTHSMOVIE.COM)
- Home Movies (HOMEMOVIES-THEMOVIE.COM)
- Me Harmony (MEHARMONYMOVIE.COM)
- Ra (RA-MOVIE.COM)
- When the Trumpets Sound (WHENTHETRUMPETSSOUND.COM and WHENTHETRUMPETSSOUND-THEMOVIE.COM).
- Other possible titles for Secretariat:
- Taking the Crown (TAKINGTHECROWN.COM and TAKINGTHECROWNMOVIE.COM)
- Triple Crown (TRIPLECROWNMOVIE.COM)
The studio has also purchased domains for films it might distribute for DreamWorks as well.
- Eat, Sleep, Poop (EATSLEEPPOOPMOVIE.COM)
- Escape Artist (ESCAPEARTIST-MOVIE.COM)
- Good Looking (GOODLOOKING-THEMOVIE.COM)
- I Saw You (ISAWYOU-THEMOVIE.COM)
- Nonstop (NONSTOP-MOVIE.COM)
- Robopocalypse (ROBOPOCALYPSE-MOVIE.COM)
- War Horse (WARHORSE-MOVIE.COM)
- Wife vs. Ninja (WIFEVSNINJAMOVIE.COM)
We'll be sure to keep you posted on any new developments on an Ant-Man film or any of these others potential film titles as well as soon as we have more information.
Ant-Man is in development . The film is directed by Edgar Wright.

"So for now Captain America, Iron Man, Thor and The Avengers ... are all under Marvel and not Disney."
Exactly.

Also, @CBF, and @TheFallen, I wasn't implying that there's no market for R-rated superhero movies. Blade has done quite well. I was only reiterating Warner's logic for making that decision, not saying I agree with it.
It is a simple fact, though, that when you make a film R-rated, you're cutting back its audience because you're limiting who can see it. Hence the reason most superhero movies are PG or PG13.

I think most likely they'll have Hank Pym appear as a minor character in The Avengers (just as a scientist, pre- any sort of powers) and that will open the door for him to have his own spin-off and then figure as a main character into Avengers 2.

The Narrator: The Better Man
The Fallen
@Josh, CBF hit it right on for me. His first comment was what I meant.
@CBF, thanks bud. You said it better than I did. I agree that judging all R rated hero flicks on Watchmen (almost NC-17) is judgmental and stereotypical. I mean hell, a hero flick can have no fighting or sex at all, but if it has 3 f bombs its an R. So good point there.
@Park Williams and @Josh
The contract states that every marvel hero besides the ones owned by other companies (Xmen, Spidey etc) and the ones they themselves are releasing are now Disney owned. Once the slate of movies they (Marvel) are releasing come out, then Disney will have those rights as well. So for now Captain America, Iron Man, Thor and The Avengers Team (will involve Universal due to TIH), are all under Marvel and not Disney until they come out, and have run their course, then disney will have full on hands ownership for those franchises. Everything else they own. But not these babies.
Also @ParkWilliams, I am not being stereotypical about disney. I know what they can do especially with other branches. I actually like the fact Dreamworks is partnered with them for now, so that Spielberg and Co., can get their hands on a few hero films themselves. I am aware that Disney can make top notch hero movies themselves (The Incredible's) and thru their companies (Sin City via Touchstone).
However, Ant-man, unless treated very passionately (and combined with the Avengers) would seem childish almost any way you spin it. But have him standing next to a man in an iron suit, a walking flag, a Norse God, and a green behemoth, he seems a lot less fruity. Not to mention he is a founder of the Avengers. So he should have at least an appearance in these movies. That what I am saying.

And BD is right. Disney is NOT part of them yet. But they will be when f*cking Ant-Man comes out. Go back and read my original comment.

More like there isn't the same market appeal for Watchmen. Not R-rated comic book films in general. Basing a whole type of something based on one thing that has to do with it is called stereotyping. And it's judgmental.

As long as they keep Edgar Wright on this I will be fine.

What makes you think Disney is going to treat Marvel studios any differently than they treat any of their other subsidiary studios like Dimension, ABC, and Miramax (R.I.P.)? Just because Marvel is being run under Disney doesn't mean they are going to put their hands into every film Marvel is making.
Besides, 90% of Marvel properties are PG or PG13 level stories anyway, with the exception of Punisher and Blade, and a few characters like that, they're unlikely to make R-rated films regardless of whether or not Disney has anything to do with them.
Warner/DC already publicly announced they weren't going to make any R-rate "superhero" licensed films because Watchmen bombed so badly. There isn't the same market appeal as there is for PG-13 superhero flicks.

actually from wut i read, marvel made deals with other companies for the films they r currently working on, so disney isn't part of them yet. unless i misread the original news, but i'm pretty positive that that is wut is up.

What makes you think that Disney can't produce R-Rated material? They have avenues they produce them through already. ABC is owned by Disney and all it's original programming is produced by Disney; Disney owns Touchstone Entertainment which has released R-rated movies. I don't see why everyone is so quick to peg anything Disney as childish just because the bulk of their commercial advertising and production is geared toward families. It just comes across as ignorant.
And Josh is right, any Marvel being made by Marvel now is already a Disney movie. Every character who wasn't on a third party contract when Disney bought Marvel reverted directly to Disney.

@Josh Right. But they are not being made by Disney right now.

@Josh I think what Fallen meant was that after The Avengers and the current franchises is when they would fit Ant-Man in, and by then it would be a new franchise which would be brought on by Disney. That is different than what Marvel Studios is currently doing. If Marvel Studios had Spider-Man, we would have seen a much truer version of him and maybe would be in The Avengers movie. However after Marvel Studios finishes up their current franchises which were in the making long before the Disney buy-out, then Disney will take over the Marvel films with their versions, and Ant-Man is the beginning of that. I am pretty sure that is what Fallen means, and I have known that since I heard the news of Disney buying Marvel. I just thought the Disney/Marvel films would come after The Avengers in 2012. Didn't expect to hear news of them so quick.

What makes you think that Ant-Man wouldn't be in the Marvel film universe? Disney owns all the characters, dude.
What pisses me off is that they would do a spinoff series for Mater, the worst character from the worst Pixar movie.

Wow... everything's Disney! I didn't see movieweb.com? lol, my poor joke.
Ant-man, I like the idea, and that Disney is holding it there is no problem with that for me cause some heroes need not to be dark or gritty even they were in comics. But some superheroes also must be rated R and Disney did not own their franchises.

The Narrator: The Better Man
Sh*t... he needs to be in MArvels Avengers Universe. I mean now that Disney is releasing it, they can turn a hero like Ant man into a really stupid, goofy, quick-buck kids action movie. I mean I can see it right now. I am trying to stay open minded to this, but damn....
