Anne Hathaway Ruins Catwoman Costume During Fight on The Dark Knight Rises

Anne Hathaway tears through costumes on The Dark Knight Rises set
Director Christopher Nolan is pushing actress Anne Hathaway to the limits when it comes to her Catwoman fight scenes for The Dark Knight Rises. In trying to capture a series of realistic brawls, the actress has already given one stuntman a serious black eye after pummeling the butt of her gun into his eye socket.

Now, the girl can't seem to stay in her latex outfit. The IMAX cameras utilized in shooting The Dark Knight Rises don't allow for much cheating when it comes to throwing a stage punch, which is demanding that the actors get incredibly physical. Anne Hathaway has taken the challenge to heart, throwing herself into these intense action scenes with all of her might. This aggressive behavoir has now seen her tearing out the ass of her Catwoman costume more than once.

It might be easy to make jokes about her weight when first hearing how the new Selina Kyle is tearing through her sexy wardrobe, but the svelte actress has never been in better shape. It is a combination of the materials being used to bring this version of Catwoman to life, mixed with her hyper-physicality, that is actually causing the problem.

An insider who was on set had this to say.

"Anne was filming a very similar fight scene when her costume split right open right on her bottom. She's putting everything into this role both physically and emotionally and the wardrobe department is paying the price. She must have gone through a dozen costume changes due to throwing herself around."

Christian Bale and Tom Hardy will be pushed to similar limits when their climactic fight scenes are filmed. Rumor has it that the character Bane will actually break Batman's spine. If the two actors go at it at the same speed Anne Hathaway has, they better be careful, or someone could get seriously injured.

The Dark Knight Rises comes to theaters July 20th, 2012 and stars Liam Neeson, Tom Hardy, Christian Bale, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Anne Hathaway, Gary Oldman, Aidan Gillen, Marion Cotillard. The film is directed by Christopher Nolan.

It really does sound like she's being very serious about this role. Will it be her the next one to pull off a Heath Ledger or will it be someone else?

@t.Shane ......its possible....... but yeah, she should give it all, its the last film on TDK and they should all give it all they got...make the scenes as intense and cool as possible, doesn't matter if it cost you 10 or 100 costumes.....make the last one stick....

Sounds like that cat suit will be worth the price of admission! Hathaway is big in all the right places and even in top shape like she is now, it's not easy to fit all that great body into a skin tight costume and expect the costume to keep up with all the physical stunt work needed for this kind of movie.

@newtron Mr. Orange is certainly one of our more.... interesting article writers. Just remember it's his wording, is all. You and I take it to mean she's putting forth a lot of effort, regardless of the way Orange makes it sound or doesn't make it sound.

Interesting stuff. Hopefully, we get no real-life deaths like we did with The Dark Knight.

It's funny how these articles, but this one in particular, seems to be somewhat biased against Anne Hathaway, making it seem as though she's just frolicking onscreen and physically destroying stuntmen and wardrobe as a result of just mindless child's play, like her putting her all into this role is a problem on her part. I mean, don't we want her to put her all into this role? I mean, I understand that a stuntman got hurt and the wardrobe seemingly can't take her vigor at this point, but things happen, and the latter issue is adjustable and fixable. Personally, I think her putting her all into this role shows her respect for the character, the francise, and the fans. The way they describe her in this article makes her sound mindless and over-the-top. Even the quote used describes what happened as being a result of her "throwing herself around". Uhhhhh, I don't think, on the set of any movie (except for a comedy), there's room for the actors and filmmakers to just throw themselves around. Otherwise, you just get another Christian Bale/Terminator Salvation incident, which proved to be hilarious, but still. And if Chris Nolan hasn't expressed any disapproval about what's been going on, then her performance as Catwoman shouldn't been subject to biased nonsense such as this article, unless this article was written after the writer witnessed these events first hand. As the writer, if you don't approve of Anne Hathaway as Catwoman, then leave your personal feelings out of the reports.

And secondly, there shouldn't be any reporting on rumors of any possible spoilers, for any film, such as the reference to what Bane may do to Batman in this film. I know that most of know what happened in the comics, and that's no mystery, but it's crap like this article that can potentially ruin certain aspects of the film. The comic and the film are two different matters, to a degree. I'm already dissatisfied about some of the articles that have been posted by MovieWeb about this film, and this article doesn't help.

@soshi, aside from that day which is when the movie is released, but you forgot about viral marketing material.

The term of The Dark Knight rising is not in terms of Batman being broken by Bane, but something completely different.
Think about what you know about the last 2 movies

Anybody else thinks it's ironic how the movie with Bane in it is called The Dark Knight RISES while the comics saga with Bane in it was called KnightFALL?
