Animal Rescue gets director Neil Burger
Fox Searchlight has inked a deal with Limitless director Neil Burger to helm their crime drama Animal Rescue.

The drama follows a man who wants to leave his life of crime. He gets caught up in a murder that results from a loss at a pit bull fight. The filmmaker is also writing the screenplay, adapted from a short story by Dennis Lehane.

The director most recently made Limitless, which grossed $161 million worldwide. He also directed The Illusionist, another surprise hit that brought in almost $90 million.

Peter Chernin and Mike Larocca are producing the project with Dylan Clark.

Animal Rescue is in development and stars Tom Hardy, Noomi Rapace, James Gandolfini. The film is directed by Michael R. Roskam.

    Adaptations of Dennis Lehane novels or stories have only been good thus far. I'm still awaiting The Given Day, which supposedly Sam Raimi was attached to at some point.
