Andy Tennant has signed on to direct the romantic comedy, Around the World in 80 Dates for Universal Pictures and Reese Witherspoon's Type A Films.

The flick is the adaptation of the Jennifer Cox memoir; Gwyn Lurie will adapt the screenplay. Witherspoon has not been signed on to star in the film that revolves around a British travel writer's attempt to find her soulmate, sending her profile and specs to contacts around the world. According to The Hollywood Reporter, she then travels the globe, going on dates with the top 80 candidates in 16 countries.

Around the World in 80 Dates is set for a 2008 release; it's still in the early development stage.
