Andy Fickman has signed on to direct The Undomestic Goddess, an adaptation of Sophie Kinsella's best-selling novel by Universal Pictures.
Book about a lawyer turned maid
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Spyglass is coming aboard to produce with Robert De Niro and Jane Rosenthal's Tribeca Prods.
Adapted by Aline Brosh McKenna (The Devil Wears Prada), Kinsella's book centers on a workaholic female attorney who, believing she wrecked her chances of being named partner at her London firm, has a meltdown and ends up in the English countryside. After stopping at a large house to ask directions, she is mistaken as a candidate for a maid position and takes a housekeeping job.
The studio is keeping the book's English setting.
Universal snapped up the book in 2005 and at one point had Tom Bezucha attached to direct. Fickman and Spyglass' involvement brings the adaptation out of the cupboard and back on the table.
Fickman "had a great take on the material," Rosenthal said. "Actors love him, we love him. What more could you ask for when casting a romantic comedy?"
No production date was announced.
