Amanda Seyfried (Mamma Mia!, Big Love) has been set to star in Dear John opposite Channing Tatum in the Lasse Hallstrom-directed adaptation of the Nicholas Sparks bestseller.

According to Variety, Seyfried will play a young woman who meets and falls in love with a soldier while he's on leave.

Jamie Linden wrote the script.

Production begins shooting Oct. 13 in South Carolina.

Dear John was released February 5th, 2010 and stars Channing Tatum, Amanda Seyfried, Richard Jenkins, Henry Thomas, D.J. Cotrona, Cullen Moss, Gavin McCulley, Jose Lucena Jr.. The film is directed by Lasse Hallström.
