With Hugh Jackman locked in to play Jean Valjean, and Russell Crowe set to portray Inspector Valvert, director Tom Hooper has shifted his focus to female roles for Les Miserables. Actresses Amanda Seyfried and Taylor Swift have been offered the roles of Cossette and Eponine in the musical adaptation of Victor Hugo's novel.

We reported last month that Taylor Swift is one of the four finalists for Eponine, along with Scarlett Johansson, Evan Rachel Wood, and Lea Michele. It isn't known if either Amanda Seyfried or Taylor Swift will accept their offers yet. Anne Hathaway also stars in Les Miserables as Fatine, while Eddie Redmayne plays Marius.

Tom Hooper is directing Les Miserables from a screenplay by William Nicholson, which is adapted from the Victor Hugo novel. The story centers on Jean Valjean, a 19th Century ex-convict who wants a fresh start at life, although he is constantly pursued by Inspector Valvert, who is convinced Valjean is up to no good.

It isn't known when production will begin on Les Miserables.

Les Miserables comes to theaters December 7th, 2012 and stars Anne Hathaway, Amanda Seyfried, Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe, Sacha Baron Cohen, Helena Bonham Carter, Eddie Redmayne, Samantha Barks. The film is directed by Tom Hooper.
