All DC Comics-Based Films May Now Be on Hold

If we needed any more proof that The Dark Knight had changed the landscape of superhero films coming out of Warner Brothers and DC Comics, we have it now, thanks to director/writer David Goyer. In an interview with IESB.net, Goyer said that all DC property films are currently on hold.

Asked about the projects he was involved with, including Supermax and The Flash, Goyer said:

A lot of the DC movies at Warner Brothers are all on hold while the figure out, they're going to come up with some new plan, methodology, things like that so everything has just been pressed pause on at the moment. It was the double header of both Iron Man and The Dark Knight coming out, so more than ever I think they've realized, I think DC was responsible for 15% of Warner Brother's revenue this year, something crazy like that, so they realized that comic books, it's become a new genre, one of the most successful genres.

    Thanks for the recorrection Comrade.
But yu get what i meant, i had heard of BPRD, before Hellboy but not of his own franchise.

Good point i just researched MSJ and well Daredevil did kinda suck compared to the comics, Elektra blew, i can't say for Ghost Rider, only seen the film

yeah good idea actually as much as it will suck to wait for these movies. Go DC for understanding that you really have to take your time to get these films. right and not rush together a piece of crap.

HELLBOY was the first character, The BPRD was the spinoff, check your facts Ottley. And I don't think it's fair to say that fans write the best scripts or make the best adaptations. Mark Steven Johnson loves comic books. ALL of his movies suck.

Lovers and madmen, you or your relatives must not read any GL comics. You should try picking up "Green Lantern: Rebirth" or his current ongoing series...he's more complex than just a guy with a power ring

ohh hell JA, eva mendes or eve longoria, either one dont care, it just needs to b a chick that aint too much of skin and bones and has some curves, but plz no beyonce or rosario dawson(even thou shes pretty fine) crap like that, lets b realistic, it has to b a girl tat comand respect and look/talk with confidence and smarts.

yeah u r right, DC has relied only on its big 3 to support the rest, i aint saying thier bad, but thier not quite out there like batman or super-man, hell flash even had his own TV show LOOOONG time ago, so yeah, lets wish for 1 great movie, then go from there,

You got a good point Lovers & Madmen. Also i had only heard of the group comics that Hellboy was in, i actually never knew he had his own spin-off comic until after the movie.
It's also because that marvel have had so much fame with their characters that everyone has forgot about the other characters of DC comic universe, everyone only remembers the famous 3 which is Batman & Superman (preferably due to their popularity) and Wonder Woman because of Linda Carter.
Dc have only ever focused movie adaptations for their main characters, except for Supergirl, which bombed in the box office, after that i guess they lost faith. They just need to realise they need the right team to produce.

Also to Vamp i can definately see Kate Beckingsale in the role, only thing is though it aint gonna happen, she turned it down :(
I had an unusual though earlier on as Eva Mendes as Wonder Woman, although i guess it would never happen but just image how hot she's look in the role :)

Everyone hates my picks to play Wonder Woman, Ottley. They are Lauren Graham (I know, it's a long shot, but I can see her as the role. The only thing is that we need to see her in a serious role first to see if she can do that. The "Bad Santa" images might make it a bit weird to watch her as Wonder Woman. lmfao!). Also, I think Kate Beckinsale would be a great choice, and that's NOT just stemming from the fact that she's my favorite actor.

However, VIS has a choice that is interesting, and that is Sophia Bush. I think she could do a good Wonder Woman. The only problem is, is that her voice is a smidge whiny and croaky. I wonder if that's ONLY in the "One Tree Hill" series, though. Whatever, she LOOKS the part. lolz!

thats a good point, dont kny why i forgot about hellboy, honestly i never knew/heard of him b4 the first movie, i loved that one and was exstatic on the second more so than iron-man, so yeah thanx for bringing that up, they never planned on a second hellboy, they just did it, years after the first one, after the demand and audience said they wanted to kno more,

Lover&Madmaen has got it spot on, Marvel have so many popular and well known comics out at the moment, that DC have got left behind somewhat. you have to hope that the films they do will get into the general public imagination like hellboy as done( how many people knew who he was). But for every Hellboys there is a punisher that nobody cares for.

batman is a really developed characted, superman is, x-men r, iron-man some-what, better now, GL???? my 13 year old sis dont kno who he is, my 14 yr old bro thinks hes a pansy, but for the most part to the kids n my friends, GL. aint that big. if anything do it like ironman, do one movie gauge the response, then move on, dont do one planning on the second b4 u get the one done, if u do one movie, planning to do one movie, then the next movie will come out even better, it worked for pirates, its workin for ironman, its workin for transformer, not every movie can have nolan at the helm to plan a sequel while doing the first. but all this is my opinion.

  22. J.A.Ottley.Writer / Director

GL is a really developed character, but to get the Nolanesque feel then you need at least 2 or 3 movies not a one off.

???????? 6 movies for GL????? thats a lil tooo optimistic, lets stick to one and a JL for now for him and let the rest of the world who dont kno him tell us if they can sit by for 5 more installments....i mean no disrespct but 3 is stretchin it.

  24. J.A.Ottley.Writer / Director

LOL i think you concept for GL can roughly be done in a trilogy alone, Vis.
You should start writing it, the best scripts always come from the fans, because we know the franchise and as a fan ourself we know what the other fans want, unlike the majority of Hollywood's producers and screenwriters whom are in it for the cash.

Also the poorness of seeing the first trailer of DBE, is what inspired me to start writing a DB script. I'm waiting for my Dragon Ball Z Complete Series torrent to finish downloading. I've got DB & GT.

You should start writing it, you can get all the GL comios through torrents
Also i doubt 20th century fox will risk doing a sequel to DB if it bombs, unless someone creates a perfect sequel that fits to the fan's expectations.

  25. T.Clark

...that's assuming GL is a box office smash, because if it isn't, I doubt a studio will want to do six movies of the character...wishful thinking lol A double-trilogy to me would make the most sense, but probably wouldn't seem that way from a studio's point of view. Who knows...GL has the potential to be DC's Iron Man: a sci-fi adventure that is an surprising hit

    3 years agoby @insertusernamehereFlag

  26. T.Clark

You might as well get going on the DB script, J.A., because I can picture a reboot getting underway "The Incredible Hulk"-style after "Dragonball" bombs

I picture "Green Lantern" as a double-trilogy, a la Star Wars. The first trilogy focuses on Hal Jordan's origin and ultimate corruption, while the second trilogy focuses on his rebirth...and yes, the entire Corp will play a significant part.

You see i use to be a comic book fanatic, then all of a sudden i lost complete interest in them and now that i'm adapting more not only as a story writer/ creator but also as a screenwriter.
I've become reading comics more to tackle the challenges of screenwriting, to see if i can create a great comic book script, which i've done not so bad with Batman.
Working on a ton load of others as well, so i've been reading the comics to keep up to date.
Also i've taken a sudden interest in Manga such as Dragon Ball/Z & GT.

Also Rebirth its an awesome story.

Has anyone here read the Trinity Script?

    3 years agoby @chronicFlag

  28. -comrade-

Monkey03, when's the last time you read a Green Lantern comic? He's a great character, one of the best actually. Hal Jordan has a better story than Batman, especially in "Rebirth".

I think we will start to see waning production of Comic Book movies, especially obscure ones because what studio are finding is that with movies that have either a) a visual appeal or b) pre-existing status with the non-comics community. The Spirit, which happened to suck, never had a chance. People didn't know what the f*ck it was.

Ottley has it dead to rights: Trinity.

honestly, and all this is my opinion, i kno i'll get yelled at or made fun of by someone, but a green latern and wonder woman movies dont peak my interest at all, they really dont,i kno they've been around for decades and have made some possibly great contributions to the comic book world in some form, i dont kno i'm not a comic hound, but i find them kinda plain and just not so interesting, the only other movie that i think would do some-what decent from the b-list comic heros is "the flash", i kno thats sour on alotta people lips, but come on, i aintsayin hes the best, hes just not as boring as green latern or wonder woman in my eyes

    3 years agoby @lovers-and-madmenFlag

  30. J.A.Ottley.Writer / Director

But the question is who would we see as Wonder Woman, also movie releases tend to reboost the pupularity of characters and their comic book franchises, like 'The Spirit'

They need some one that still looks like the character with great acting ability and still look kind of sexy to attract a male auidence.

    Suggestions anyone?

Also if they wanted to majorily boost Wonder Woman's popularity, easyily done in one word
    'TRINITY'
