Disney moves forward with Alice in Wonderland sequel
Walt Disney Pictures is moving ahead on a sequel to Alice in Wonderland, with original screenwriter Linda Woolverton returning to write the follow-up. It isn't clear at this time if Tim Burton will return to direct.

Alice in Wonderland took the box office by storm in 2010, taking in $334 million domestically and just over $1 billion worldwide. It also isn't known if deals are already in place for Johnny Depp (Mad Hatter), Mia Wasikowska (Alice), Helena Bonham Carter (Red Queen), and Anne Hathaway (White Queen) to reprise their roles.

Joe Roth, Suzanne Todd, and Jennifer Todd will return as producers on this follow-up. It isn't known if Disney already has a release date in mind.

Alice in Wonderland's massive success spawned a revival of live-action fairy tales such as Snow White and the Huntsman, Mirror Mirror, Oz: The Great and Powerful, and Maleficent, also written by Linda Woolverton.

Alice in Wonderland was released March 5th, 2010 and stars Mia Wasikowska, Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter, Anne Hathaway, Crispin Glover, Matt Lucas, Stephen Fry, Michael Sheen. The film is directed by Tim Burton.

@moviedude21 i do not even agree to that

Tim had no nuance or actual input it was just a licensing agreement- you make your film then do one for us- and as burtons streak can not be mimicked without credit they just got him to come in get some concept art going, get his name atop then bingo got a shocker of a bloated cgi filled sh*tfest!

@ROFLitschristian Alice in Wonderland and Oz: the Great and Powerful are in no way related, other then the fact that they both happen to be Disney movies. They may also only have slightly similar cinematography, but they are not very much the same at all. Alice in Wonderland looks like it is way much more bland then Oz: The Great and Powerful.

It will only work if the original cast and Tim are on it. Otherwise, bomb-mo.

mixed feelings about this...while the story could have been stronger, i thought the first one was visually incredible and i enjoyed all the actors in it. if they make this, i would hope everyone comes back, but that they focus on a stronger story this time.

@felipe-11 Hopefully the screenwriter who that is writing the script for the Alice in wonderland sequel, will come up with a better story/plot for it than the Alice in wonderland movie from 2010 had.

The only way I'd be interested is if they made it a prequel and actually adapted the original story... that whole Alice returns to Wonderland plot was a mess IMO.
