Alfred Molina Mentors Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time

Alfred Molina will team with Jake Gyllenhaal, Gemma Arterton and Ben Kingsley in Disney's Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. Mike Newell directs the adaptation of the Ubisoft fantasy action feature.

According to Variety, Molina will play Sheik Amar, who becomes a mentor to the prince.

Production is slated to begin in July in the U.K. and Morocco.

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time was released May 28th, 2010 and stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Gemma Arterton, Ben Kingsley, Alfred Molina, Steve Toussaint, Toby Kebbell, Richard Coyle, Ronald Pickup. The film is directed by Mike Newell.

    Must admit, the choice of Gyllenhaal surprised me. But I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. Have to see how he shapes up yet. Still, in this case, reckon the plot and script are more important than the choice of actor.

    Jake's gotta go back to his Darko or Brokeback type of movies.His face aint got a trace of prince in it.Better for 'em to make him the prince's half brother.LOL

    The games were very good, so this film's got quite a lineage yo live up to. Interesting idea, but will the execution be as good? Hope it's good, but still, very early days yet.

    I definitely like Molina, so it could be good...but, I just can't see Gyllenhaal as the Prince of Persia - don't get me wrong, he's a great actor...but, I don't know about this one.

    i think as far as disney messing it there is a slim chance to NONE, they will do that, i mean Pirates is one of the best trilogy movies that has come out, each one kicked ass and the only thing disney tried to do there was put a leash on deppand they barely did that so im hyped but is jake playing the prince?

    I agree with artkid. I mean, who among us is not excited to see The Dark Knight? Didn't Heath Ledger play alongside Jake as a gay guy too? And if Molina is joining the cast, along with Kingsley, hot dog! This will be a promising feature for 2009...but there's still room for error if Disney is the catalyst...DON'T SCREW THIS UP!

    I agree the games were sick, but Jake Gyllenhaal? Disney? Did I read this right? Not that disney isnt good at what they do, Im just confused on to Prince of Persia being made by Disney? Pirates worked so I bet the look and feel will be grade A quality for sure. Should be good.
