Sony Pictures Animation has finalized a deal with The Smurfs producer Jordan Kerner to develop a feature version of the TV series ALF.

The project will be a hybrid of live-action and CGI animation elements, much like The Smurfs. Jordan Kerner will produce alongside original series creators Tom Patchett and Paul Fusco, who will also return to provide the voice of the title character.

The series ran for 102 episodes over four seasons, between 1986 and 1990. The story followed the suburban Tanner family, who find a furry alien from the planet Melmac that crash landed in their garage. The Tanners take in the extraterrestrial, who has a penchant for eating cats and cracking wise. The title is an acronym for Alien Life Form.

No screenwriter or director is attached to the project at this time.

Why do people always forget they already made a movie, it was called Project ALF and it was a really good movie, I would love to see a new movie but no CGI unless its a spaceship or something. Just hope they use the original ALF puppet and have cameos of the original cast.

terrible idea... sure the show was good when i was a kid (not so much now as an adult, although it is great nostalgia now) i say bury this one... besides how would they market this and who would they cater it to. kids have no idea who alf is, and parents who watched it, are usually parents of teenagers by now... is this smart movie making or just crazy?
