Alan Rickman is joining the cast of the musical feature, Sweeney Todd for DreamWorks Studios and Warner Bros. Pictures.

Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter and Sacha Baron Cohen are already part of the cast. Tim Burton is directing the film, based on the Stephen Sondheim Broadway musical. It centers on Benjamin Barker (Depp), a man unjustly imprisoned by a lecherous judge (Alan Rickman), says The Hollywood Reporter; Barker returns as barber Sweeney Todd and exacts revenge.

Sweeney Todd is set to start production next month in London.

Sweeney Todd was released December 21st, 2007 and stars Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter, Alan Rickman, Timothy Spall, Sacha Baron Cohen, Jamie Campbell Bower, Laura Michelle Kelly, Jayne Wisener. The film is directed by Tim Burton.
