It seems that the American Film Institute has made way for some superheroes on their top 10 list this year. According to The Hollywood Reporter, box office sensations The Dark Knight and Iron Man have found their way on the AFI's 10 Outstanding Films of 2008 list.

Rounding out the top 10 were The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Frost/Nixon, Frozen River, Gran Torino, Milk, WALL-E, Wendy and Lucy and The Wrestler.

The AFI also honored the 10 Outstanding TV programs of the year. The top 10 were: Breaking Bad, In Treatment, John Adams, Life, Lost, Mad Men, The Office, Recount, The Shield and The Wire.

The AFI will honor these films and TV series at its AFI Awards 2008 luncheon on January 9 at the Four Seasons Hotel in Los Angeles.
