Abbie Cornish Replaces Natalie Portman in Wuthering Heights

Aussie actress Abbie Cornish has replaced Natalie Portman, who departed in May because of scheduling difficulties, in the latest adaptation of the Charlotte Bronte classic, Wuthering Heights. Michael Fassbender is attached to play the iconic role of Heathcliff.

According to Variety, U.K.-based Ecosse Films is seeking a new director after John Maybury ankled after creative disagreements over the script, and hopes to make an announcement in the coming weeks.

Wuthering Heights, published in 1847, is a tempestuous love story about obsessive passion across the class divide, set on the Yorkshire Moors. It has been adapted for film and TV more than a dozen times, most famously in 1939 with Laurence Olivier and Merle Oberon. A 1992 version starred Ralph Fiennes and Juliette Binoche.

No production date has been set.

Wuthering Heights was released November 11th, 2011 and stars Kaya Scodelario, James Howson, Oliver Milburn, Nichola Burley, Amy Wren, James Northcote, Steve Evets, Paul Hilton. The film is directed by Andrea Arnold.
