Aaron Eckhart has joined the cast of director Antoine Fuqua's action-thriller Olympus Has Fallen for Millennium Entertainment.

The story centers on a former Secret Service agent (Gerard Butler) who tries to save the White House after terrorists attack the presidential residence. The plot has been described as Die Hard in the White House. Aaron Eckhart is playing the President of the United States (will anyone believe a white man can be president?).

Newcomers Creighton Rothenberger and Katrin Benedikt wrote the screenplay. Gerard Butler will produce alongside his manager, Alan Siegel, and Millennium president Mark Gill. Trevor Short and Avi Lerner are executive producing.

Principal photography is scheduled to begin in September. This project is not to be confused with Sony's White House Down, another action-thriller centering on an attack at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. Guess what? They still have a black president. So, which one will you see?

Olympus Has Fallen was released March 22nd, 2013 and stars Gerard Butler, Aaron Eckhart, Finley Jacobsen, Dylan McDermott, Rick Yune, Morgan Freeman, Angela Bassett, Melissa Leo. The film is directed by Antoine Fuqua.

@skywise - It would appear so, my friend. Such a shame.

@dan1 - ah, I see it now. I knew what sp*c was, I just didn't see it within the word "sp*ce" in that particular context. Stupid MW filter. :P

@narrator Has the word "sp*c" in it, derogatory towards hispanic people. At least that's my theory why it's censored. Funny.

I will give to Fuqua though he can take a pretty generic idea and really sp*ce it up.

@jasonkat Roland Emmerich wanted Will Smith for the ID4 sequels and to play the President in at least one of them.

Aaron Eckhart is a great actor and this should be a good movie. But of course the crappy Roland Emmerich movie will be much more successful.

The title of the film sounds awesome and Eckhart is an underrated talent, so I quickly clicked the article... and was disappointed by the actual premise of the film. And no offense to Gallagher, but I'm with @dan1 - the black/white president jokes were unnecessary; they could have at least been funny.
