A Nightmare on Elm Street Star Robert Englund Favors a Freddy Prequel

There have been some rumors swirling around the Net for awhile about a new reincarnation of A Nightmare On Elm Street. The folks at Fear.net had a chance to chat with Freddy himself, Robert Englund, while he was promoting his latest directorial effort, Killer Pad, and he offered some tidbits on his interest in a possible new Elm Street flick.

Recently there has been some buzz online about a new Nightmare on Elm Street film. Have you heard anything about this?

"I don't know if it's going to be Nightmare on Elm Street the original remake-which is not a bad idea especially with the success of Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Halloween-and get some new director to breathe new life into it. I always thought there was room for a prequel. I would be interested in being in that! It's funny because they are all good. Texas Chainsaw Massacre the original was great and the original Halloween was great and some people even think that the original Nightmare on Elm Street is the best of them all. I don't know if you'd want to remake it but it all happens sooner or later. There have been some spin-offs talked about with Freddy and Jason and Michael Myers which is interesting but maybe that's kind of silly. Maybe one was enough. At one time there had been a prequel to Nightmare on Elm Street. I haven't read that script but I heard things about it that John McNaughton the director of Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer might direct it. That was kind of interesting. That's the one I would be interested in being involved with."

The Prequel?

"Well yeah because I'd obviously get to do it without the make up. Even though I'm getting old I'm not getting too old to play Freddy. I always figured by the time he was all burned and everything I figured he was in his 40's anyway. I could pull that off. It's going to be interesting to see what they do with it."

Please don't make another Nightmare On Elm Street movie. I love Freddy but horror movies these days aren't what they used to be. They always have skanks and frat boys prancing around doing eachother and it's so unecessary.

to "marcusx"......... when is the last time you have been scared or made to jump with fear at a movie? just doesn't happen anymore, the movies we grew up on scared us cause we were young, these remakes do it for the new generation of kids with a modern touch! we don't have the right to slag all these movies, its very sad! just don't go to see these movies, end off!

Not at all a surprise they thinking about doing another Nightmare on Elm Street.

Honestly I like the character Freddy Kruger but they should leave this one alone, no need for a prequel, sequel or restart of a franchise. Freddy already came back for Freddy vs. Jason and got his head chopped off, end of his story.

i agree the remakes werent that good. just cuz you bring on death and gore does not make it scary. be honest...have any of you watched these movies and actually jumped or whatnot out of sheer terror? no cuz its not scary any more

Just another attempt at Hollywood trying to waste more money, and take it out of our pockets as always. If it's not broken, don't fix it....

    Halloween Remake----BIG MISTAKE
    TEXAS CHAINSAW---EVEN BIGGER MISTAKE
    Nightmare/Elm St----Disaster

Hollywood needs to pay it's writers more and lock them away until good ideas are put on paper. Start firing these writers and these MOVIE EXECS that GREENLIGHT this crap and sit there and say: "Yea, we could try this...the people are stupid enough to pay to want to see this crap".

meh, not interested, leave it alone, unless wes craven is involved. I did like the new version of Halloween, it was a cool vision, but nothing can compare with John Carpenters 'Halloween'. The remakes are getting old. so work most dont.

it is so laughable that englund thinks he can return to play this role... who does he think he is, sylvester stallone? all against a prequel for this, it will take the entire "old-school" feel out of the series, i'd rather see them sh*t up the screen with another freddy vs jason before i'd see them ruin the Nightmare series

Rob Zombie pissed all over the Re-Make of "Halloween"!! "Halloween" (2007) was a luaghable mess! I laughed so hard towards the end it was unreal! I thought ROb was making a horror film not a comedy! The Re-Make of "The Texas ChainSaw Massacre" was a sh*tty mess too! There was nothing scary about, just blood and gore!

Unlike the orginial of both which didn't relie on blood and gore, it was "MORE" psychological horror! What you didn't see, does scare you!! We didn't need a back story for Michael Myers or Leatherface! That is what made them scary and less human! A backstory was not called for! Hollywood film makers amped it up for what ever reason! & the only reason I can think of is the more money or turn something that was great into sh*t!
There is no point to Re-Make another classic horror film! It's destroying a horror film legacy when you have to re-make a great classic horror film and turn it into a sh*t fest!

I love this series and would love to see a prequel. Even though we know the story, they could really expand upon his dementia. I am all for this

robert englund is only in his 40's?
why do i find that hard to believe? oh yeah, because hes almost 60, thats why.

sorry man, while a nightmare remake may be inevitable, if mr englund plays freddy then that would be just sad.
