A Nightmare on Elm Street Sequel Could Be in 3D

A Nightmare on Elm Street sequel on the way in 3D?
With A Nightmare on Elm Street sequel opening strong at the box office this weekend with a $32.2 million performance, it's no surprise that the talk has now turned to the sequel, and a 3D sequel at that. The Wrap spoke with Warner distribution president Dan Fellman who revealed that a 3D sequel is moving forward.

"We don't have a story yet, but this is the largest horror opening in the April-May corridor, and it just proves there's a lot left in the franchise," said Warner distribution president Dan Fellman.

Dread Central also spoke to one of the film's producers, Brad Fuller, who spoke more about the 3D sequel.

"I think that making the Nightmare sequel in 3D is a bigger discussion than for right here in this room. We think that 3D movies have to be designed and written as such. If Eric Heisserer and Wesley Strick came to us with a Nightmare sequel script that is for a 3D movie, we'd be fools not to make it."

"Using 3D for a Nightmare sequel has to work conceptually for us, though. I don't want to shoehorn the story just so we can use 3D technology. I do really think this movie and the visual style would work well within a 3D environment, though, so you never know," Fuller added.

We'll be sure to keep you posted on any further details on a sequel to A Nightmare on Elm Street as soon as we have more information.

A Nightmare on Elm Street was released April 30th, 2010 and stars Jackie Earle Haley, Kyle Gallner, Rooney Mara, Katie Cassidy, Thomas Dekker, Kellan Lutz, Clancy Brown, Connie Britton. The film is directed by Samuel Bayer.

@vanboy What does owning a Blu Ray player have to do with anything? The Blu Ray sales tell the entire story. As for Avatar we aren't the only ones who didn't like it. Except for the critics and the James Cameron fanboys mostly everyone hated it. Just stating facts.

Dude you obviously don't own a Bluray player.

You know, it has always been like this. A great movie comes out and everybody raves about it. And I bet you two did also, and then when it becomes seemingly cool to do so, people desperate to look like critics of higher cinematic fare berate the film that will serve as the blueprint and standard for films to follow. Before Avatar there was a low. Now there's a surge for directors to want to make good movies again. I simply can't understand the childish way you guys act. It's like some wanabee fashionista insulting every line of clothing or something, so they can appear to be ahead of the curve. Get real guys and get over yourselves already

@TheDude1 i agree with you on Blu Rays and avatar, it was nothing but Eye Candy with a story that has been beaten to death. it is very over rated, people got caught up on the Eye Candy they failed to relize the terrible story and the okish acting.

@vanboy The problem with Avatar is its all flash and no story. As for its Blu Ray sales breaking records that means nothing. Blu Ray is flopping right now and it was only a matter of time before a movie came along and sold some copies. Blu Ray sales will fall again.

YAY 3D!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Everything should be in 3D these days. A flat 2D world in boring. And we only got a fifteen minute segment in The Final Nightmare. This one will be all in 3D. Cool!

And Oblivion, Avatar was not overrated sh*t. How can you deny the appeal? How can you deny the Bluray sales? From where do you base your judgment? is it simply from hate of something massively awesome? I mean the effects were freaking a real as they come. The Na'vi people looked so real and Natiri was smokin hot for a blue ten foot tall alien. How can you say it was sh*t. That's just the sh*t coming out from talking out of your ass.

But what put 3D horror movies at the top of the food chain? 3D horror movies and 3D action movies are two totally different types of movies with two somewhat difference audiences. With 3D action movies like Avatar it cost about 200 to 400 million dollars to make the movie. With a 3D horror movie you can make it for 17 million dollars or so. The point I am trying to make that while Cameron should get credit for bringing back action 3D movies, Lussier should also get Credit for bringing back horror 3D movies. A company like Platinum Dunes is not going to just stand up and shout that we are making a 3D sequel only because Avatar was a big hit. That may be one of the many reasons but the biggest reason would have to be because 3D horror movies are a hit.

i have to agree with brian, there has been many 3d's film, animations, shorts, before avatar was thought of. even before my bloody valentine, avatar is not james camerons first attempt at 3d, he also made Ghost of the Abyss in 2003, but all in all Avatar has put 3D at the top of the food chain.

I hate to break the news to everyone but the news that a sequel was in the works came awhile back. They had everyone signed for a sequel and were already spit balling ideas before it hit theaters. and one of those ideas was 3D. 3D horror movies make big money and it would only make sense to continue that.

@TheDude1 Avatar was made for 3D and was in production way before My Bloody Valentine. So all #D credit goes to Avatar. But in my opinion Avatar is an overrated piece of sh*t

@thedude1 I think 2 people saw MY BLOODY VALENTINE. That's like saying the last FINAL DESTINATION was the reason 3D came back.

Avatar brought 3D to the forefront. Before it, NOTHING was slated for 3D. Now everything is. Come on.

@the-fallen that was a foolish comment. Patrick Lussier made 3D popular again with My Bloody Valentine 3D and it looked great. That movie was made before Avatar. So actually you could say Cameron is a wannabe Lussier.

I am all for this! Like he said, if the write the story for the 3-D then that's a great idea! The killings would be so EPIC!! Just think with the technology they hav now. People live for the future this would be some next level sh*t! And it would not be a rushed 3-D it's going to be made the right way to please the fans & to make sure they get NEW FANS of the franchise.........

You people have to understand that it is smart to make the movie in 3D for movie companies. They spend a little extra for the budget and they make far more money from the higher ticket prices. It is smart business to make it in 3D. The remake was great and the second best remake Platinum Dunes has made(second only to Texas Chainsaw Massacre). I can't wait for a sequel.

Also @timmy you have to understand that Platinum Dunes specialty is remaking horror movies. 5 of their 8 movies are remakes. The only way to stop that is to boycott remakes in general. But there aren't enough people against remakes for that to happen.
