A Fourth Bourne Sequel Is on the Way!

Now that the writers' strike has come to an end, Universal is once again ramping up its feature film production slate. The big news, coming from Variety, is that Universal is moving ahead with a fourth installment of the The Bourne Identity franchise. Though both Matt Damon and Paul Greengrass claimed they were calling it quits after the third installment The Bourne Ultimatum, they have both jumped back on the bandwagon for another film.

The studio is also gearing up the long rumored Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan follow-up Bruno, which would see Sasha Baron Cohen's fey hairdresser to the bigscreen. They are also trying to keep Guillermo Del Toro from heading off to New Zealand with New Line for four years, where he will likely be directing the two The Hobbit prequels. Their hope is that the director will stay with Universal and makes the H.P. Lovecraft adaptation At the Mountains of Madness instead.

Counting Universal's international production, it's domestic slate, and the films coming from its genre label Rogue and its specialty label Focus, the studio could have thirty-five films ready by 2010.

I could have sworn that I watched an interview with Matt Damon where he said he would like to do one or two more Bourne movies as long as they are fresh and well thought out. If he isn't in the next movie, than I don't care to see it.

Bourne films were good, Id leave it at the trilogy and move on, I want to see the Hobbit, but then again H.P. Lovecraft oh buddy that would be sick!

Each Bourne movie tops the last, can't wait for the next one. They have some of the greatest chase scenes ever filmed.

that line is overplayed andrew-ryan, very excited for a 4th, these movies kick ass, in the literal sense as well.. and as far as Bruno, who didn't see that coming? I called that once sasha said he wasn't going to perform Borat anymore.. it will be a whole bunch of laughs, yes to both

actually there were 3 novels written by ludlum. and 2 more recently written by someone else that the ludlum family hired (a ghostwriter) to continue ludlums work. so TECHNICALLY there are more novels to work from. besides, the movies are loose translations of the books anyway, so it really wouldnt matter.

There were 3 Bourne novels written so there should only be 3 movies made. Be respectful to Robert Lundlum.

Each Bourne sequel tops itself criticaly and commercially, so with Damon and Greegrass on board, the trend should continue.

A 4th Bourne is a bad idea in my opinion. Robert Ludlum only wrote 3 books, why would they make a 4th movie. The 3rd ended on such a good note. Unless they put a lot of work into the 4th and make it better than the 1st and 3rd movies of the trilogy it won't even be worth seeing.

Another one? Like Tronticon, I've never seen any of these, but the last one was Ultimatum-that means end. It's like X3 was the Last Stand, but they're still thinking about making a fourth. What are they gonna call this one? "The Bourne We Were Just Kidding"?

  22. DarkTower19

Okay: so a fourth Bourne would be sweet, especially if they can pull the Jackal into it. I would rather see a Del Toro Lovecraft movie, that seems more his style, but the Hobbit wouldn't be bad. And Bruno...as long as there is less naked man parts I'm cool with it.

    4 years agoby @darktower19Flag

  23. FilmJabber

I am so excited for a new Bourne movie. They better put Carlos the Jackal in the movie, who was the villain from the three books. Even though the movies have veered far away from the books, they could still make it work.

  24. K-Man

Hell yeah! I love what I'm hearing. I think they should go all out with one final Bourne installment. Make it the most badass of the series and then be done with it. I love these movies and I am more than down for one more film.

As for Universal trying to keep Guillermo del Toro away from the Hobbit. Ha! What a joke.
If anyone other than Peter Jackson is to direct the Hobbit it should be del Toro and everyone knows this, including both Jackson and del Toro. If its offered to him he will take it, no question. I'm pretty excited for At the Mountains of Madness (at least from what I have read about it so far) but its no comparison to The Hobbit.
