When Will Superman: The Man of Steel Fly?

Source:  Variety
Warner Brothers has been extremely happy with how Christopher Nolan has reinvented Batman for the new millennium with Batman Begins and The Dark Knight, but it seems that they've been less thrilled with Bryan Singer's updated vision of Superman in Superman Returns. Now, according to Anne Thompson at Variety, the studio is trying to determine what direction to take the films starring the world's most well known superhero.

The report states that:
Fans have been clamoring all over the web... for a complete reboot. And within the halls of Warner Bros. the same debate rages on. They too believe that the last movie didn't break the mold and wound up in some kind of middle limbo. Today I was told that it is a priority at the studio to find the right direction and if Bryan Singer is willing to do that, fine, but if he gets in the way, he may not stay on the project. There are no writers working on a Superman script now. The studio wants to figure it out. "It might be better to start from scratch," one exec admitted.

So, despite the fact that stars Brandon Routh and Kevin Spacey, as well as Singer himself, have all said that they are signed for multiple films and are eager to return to the franchise, it seems that Warner Brothers may decide to take the Man of Steel in a new direction.

Ok I keep seeing on here threads about Superman: The Man of Steel, such as "Singer Confirmed To Direct!", "When Will It Fly?", and "DC Plans to Reboot." I am trusting my instinct that the latter is correct, and the former was early speculation.

All I really want to say, is that whatever direction they decide to take Superman in, fine, but the character needs to be taken seriously. Along with the supporting characters. Along with that whole world. Justice.

No more Bosworth as Lois. No more Supes flying behind a bush and using his X-Ray Vision to spy on Lois in her home like a rapist. No more comedic Lex. And no more all-of-a-sudden-Lois-and-KalEl-have-a-kid-and-it-takes-place-between-this-movie-and-that-in-the-old-series-of-movies-and... No. Just, no.

Stay true to the source material.. And keep in mind that there needs to be "A Worthy Opponent." Fan Favorite = Brainiac.

When they were writing and filming the Dark Knight, they certainly wanted the Joker to be the main villain of the 3rd one ("I have the feeling that u and I are destined to do this forever"). They knew that they created quite possibly the greatest villain of all time and a film is only as good as its villain. They knew Joker had to come back to finish the trilogy. It would be a much larger insult to Heath if the Joker weren't in the 3rd film. I think Heath would rather have inspired another great performance rather than hinder another possible masterpiece. Here's what I think the plot line to the third one should be:

It takes place another year after the Dark Knight. Gotham is in more chaos than ever and all organized crime is basically destroyed (Maroni would have died in the car crash, and the Cheechan was fed to his little pooches) thanks to the efforts of the Joker. Thugs roam the street and people are killed on a daily basis. Bruce is still haunted by the things the Joker did and the fact that he wasn't able to save Gotham and Dent. One day he comes upon a gorgeous lady named Talia Head and begins to date her.

The Joker's trial finally begins, and in one hearing, they assign that the Joker should have a psychiatrist in order to evaluate his sanity. Enter Harlene Quinnzel. The Joker proceeds to manipulate her into feeling highly sympathetic with him and eventually obsessed with him. After weeks of manipulating her, Harley is able to devise a plan to let the Joker escape from Arkham. When the Joker escapes, everything becomes even more chaotic. Bruce resolves to once again become Batman to stop the Joker, for he knows if he does nothing, Gotham fall into complete chaos.

Talia approaches Bruce before he leaves as Batman telling him she knows who he really is and that being Batman won't work this time. She instead says that this is exactly what the Joker wants Batman to do since his return will produce more chaos between the people of Gotham and the police force trying to capture their one time hero. Bruce asks how she knows who is, and she tells him that her real name is Talia al Ghul, and that her father was Bruce's mentor Ra's. She then asks Bruce to lead them, the League of Shadows, in purging Gotham since there is absolutely now no hope for the city. Bruce refuses, but she then insists that he continue being Batman for a time in order to see that her warnings are true.

Batman goes and tries to fight the Joker, but random people and the police force greatly hinder Batman from getting to the Joker in time from doing a catastrophic act. This almost leads to Bruce's death, but he escapes. Batman continues to go out trying to fight the Joker, but fails each time. Each time he fails Talia tells him it will get worse and worse each time until not only Gotham becomes total anarchy, but the rest of the country. Bruce then agrees that the only way to truly stop the Joker is to destroy Gotham.

Bruce meets with the League of Shadows and they devise a plan which will instantly kill everyone in the city by placing an atomic bomb in the middle of the city. Under Alfred's advice though, he comes up with a different plan from the League of Shadows. He sneaks into Gordon's house at night and tells him his plan. The next evening Gordon calls a press conference and tells Gotham the truth about what happened to Harvey Dent and Batman himself shows up to the conference. Batman tells the people of Gotham that the Joker's goal isn't destruction, but total anarchy. He then tells them all that they must be united and not to panic, even when the Joker does his most violent things. Batman is let off the hook, and he proceeds to hunt the Joker. Bruce, sensing he may have saved Gotham, makes Talia promise not to destroy the city.

The Joker then gets furious and begins to truly hate Batman. He continues his terrorism, but Gotham remains calm but fearful, and the Joker's plans of anarchy royally fail. Joker comes to the conclusion that he must kill Batman in order for anarchy to resume. Harley in the meantime has done almost all of the Joker's plots of terrorism, but the Joker begins to become greatly abusive toward her. Harley comes to the conclusion that she herself must kill Batman. The Joker in the meantime comes up with his ultimate plan: he has 2 of his most loyal thugs get fake pilots licenses of pilots planned to fly a plane from Metropolis to Gotham. The pilots will proceed to drive the plane right through Wayne Tower. Harley hears of this plan and is horrified by it, and also sees it as an opportunity to lure Batman in and kill him, thus also stopping the plane. She sends a message to Batman, he comes to her, and Harley successfully knocks Batman out.

The Joker then informs the public of his little test: He says that if someone doesn't kill Batman in 30 minutes, that he will fly a plane into Wayne Tower. Also he has locked everyone in Wayne Tower down in the basement of it to where there is no escape and they are being held hostage by some of the Joker's thugs. Harley is about to kill Batman, but Batman convinces Harley to let the Joker enjoy it with her, since he would be very angry at her if he didn't. Harley calls the Joker, and the Joker hauls ass to where they are. As soon as he arrives, he immediately shoots Harley. The Joker then tells Batman that he is still going to destroy Wayne Tower with the plane and then kill him. The Joker throws his gun aside, gets out his knife, unmasks Batman to discover he is Bruce Wayne, and tries to slice him while telling another story about the scars. Before he is able to cut him, Harley shoots the Joker in the head. She unties him, gets the Joker's phone and tells the plane to land instead since Batman was killed, and also tells the thugs in Wayne Tower to release the hostages. Batman looks at his cell phone, and he has a text from Alfred that says help.

Since Harley already knows who he is, he takes her back to Wayne Manor with him, to discover Alfred tied up, and blueprints of plans in one of the guest bedrooms. He discovers that there is not one bomb but 2, and each is spread on opposite sides of the city, and they are set to blow in 20 minutes. Harley and Batman proceed to different sides of the city to disable each bomb. Harley (who brags constantly throughout the movie for having black belts in multiple martial arts), takes down the League at her location and disables the bomb. Batman arrives where Talia is. He is able to hinder her just in time to also stop the bomb. Once disabled, he pulls out all the wires and informs her that he has informed the police (he didn't tell Harley this, who is arrested as soon as the cops arrive at her bomb). Bruce asks her if she'll tell the police his identity, and she said no since she truly loved him, and she then puts a gun to her head and pulls the trigger. Harley refuses to tell the authorities of Batman's true identity. The movie ends with the Bat Signal shining once more and a thug robbing a bank, with a green suit, a top hat with ?, some purple glasses, and a ? necktie. Batman then arrives and the Riddler looks fascinated.

Not exactly. We could keep Spacey, and Routh but possibly remove Singer from the picture.

If they reboot Superman, they should keep Routh. I did like Singer's take, it was just different from the others. Make Singer like the executive producer. Don't put a re-imaged Marlon Brando as Jor-El. Keep Kevin Spacey. Take out Bosworth.

HERE IS MY VISION OF A REBOOT:

The film opens up on the planet Krypton, Kal-El's parents send him on a ship as toddler, to the planet Earth. He crash lands in the city of Metropolis, on a farm. He is then adopted by Jonathan and Martha Kent, where he adapts to His new name Clark Kent.
Years pass by, and he becomes a teenager where he hits a lot more than puberty. He begins to develop these abilities that he must take control over. After training himself to be able to control and use his powers, his father dies and then it leaves him and his mother. From then on I am stuck... criticize, I dont care....

OK, so here's what is known:

WB is going to reboot Superman; It will be a darker movie; Routh, Spacey, Singer MAY or MAY NOT return; No script has been written; They are looking for a 2010 release date (so I last heard).

Time for Singer to leave the project. Sorry, Singer, I think you are highly intellectual, but you "quit" while you were ahead without completing the X-Men films, to lousily messing up the Superman ones. Way to go, you just messed up two franchises. You're on a roll here. Making the next Super-film will be your 3rd and most costly mistake, and could ultimately mean your downfall..we saw your take on that world, and it's nothing special. Why leave the spectacular world you created with X-Men and X2 unfinished, to go do something so sub-par like that?? It doesn't even match the scope of X2. XIII would have been a much doper movie had you continued the story. Thanks for disappointing fans everywhere. Those same fans are not looking for you to do it again. Singer=fired IMO.

Superman was the first and arguably the "best." If your gonna talk SUPERheroes, then supes has yet to be beaten. Batman's totally dif. Supes is the embodyment of the superhero. He came first and he's still rolling with the whole "truth, justice, and the american way" thing. I too like batman better, but that's a popularity thing. Superman does not "suck," by far. That's just a stupid comment and an ironic one coming from someone with "super" in thier name

i think tommy lee jones would make a funny superman, with the texas accent and everything, but if he could stifle his dialect he might be able to pull it off.

hes definitely a good actor, at least in my opinion.

oh!! and people,please... HAVE A HEART!!! please leave the poor superboy alone!! concider... if they reboot the series, there will be no more worries for any "lame" idea about superman having a kid with lois, and "returns" gets to keep the kid as their own "happy ending".

i respect all your opinions for disagreeing with me(after all),john williams is the man. but,it's time to get over it and embrace the future. and since you request a reboot, what better to embrace a new superman with everything new, inclueding a new theme?

i know i've been fucking around with this for too long, but you must admit there is logic in my sugestion. and if the people at warner is reading this, they must understand,a new musical theme for superman is definetly needed.

sorry i didnt get back sooner, fallen:
i think bale is too young to play an old batman anyway, youd have to get someone in their fifties or sixties, who looks good with a moustache.

the only older actor i can think of off hand who pull off both the classy and the tough guy look is harrison ford. as for who could play old superman i have no idea.

to watchman:fine, reboot. but you have to admit that the new movie(if any)needs a new musical theme. without williams, the theme would sound cheap and generic like ken thorn's redearing. remember jurassic park 3 by don davies? it may have been composed by john williams but did not sounded the same. believe me... a new superman theme is needed.
