The Farrelly Brothers' The Three Stooges Remake Gets Greenlit

Source:  Variety
Peter and Bobby Farrelly have finally found a home for their long-proposed remake of a comedy classic. According to Variety, MGM has given the Farrelly Brothers the green light for their long-proposed remake of The Three Stooges.

The brothers had tried to set up the remake at Warner Brothers for the last five years with little progress made. It seems the film will be fast-tracked as well, with MGM setting a November 20, 2009 release date for the film.

The Farrelly's will direct the film and, while no casting has been announced, Bobby Farrelly had previously stated they were "thinking of someone like a Benecio del Toro, or a Russell Crowe" for the role of Moe.

Ya know what? I say give the movie a chance people! We need to laugh, especially in these stressed out tight times! Slapstick humor is a great stress reliever!

not to kick a dead horse, but a dark comedy about 3 emotionally unstable, prone-to-violence brothers who travel from town to town to avoid prosecution on their countless infractions including destroying peoples homes and violent outbursts in public arenas might be intriguing.

but a slapstick shitfest directed by the farrellys about three guys imitating the three stooges will be a waste of time, i agree.

HAHAHA Nice one Brian. Remember Lethal Weapon II when he shoots the fish Aquarium? "Ini... Mini... Miny.... Hey Moe!!" BANG BANG BANG!!!! LOL... classic.

Replacing comedians in classic roles just never works. They tried it with Dumb and Dumber, the Mask, The Blues Brothers and a few others and they all bombed. What next??? Abbott and Costello? The Marx Brothers? Laurel and Hardy? Forget it man.... they will NEVER be outdone.

This is a horrible, horrible, idea.

remakes are getting lame and stupid have Hollywood ran out of good new ideas also no one can out do the original stooges

November 4th, 2008 9:42am
i'd rather see the coen brothers morbid take on a three stooges story, but the farrellys will probably offer up something chuckle-worthy.

i wonder when the charlie chaplin movies will start to get remakes? This, if done right (meaning in a way that is at least respectful to the stooges) couldnt possibly be funny nowadays. and if you kill that original type of humor, its fucked up to even call it the stooges

agree with max, this is something you just don't touch.. anyone else just wouldnt be the real guys.. even when they brought in shemp it just didn't seem right.. plus it just won't have that age'd feel to it.. I'm all against this.

I dunno, I just have no desire to see a remake of this. No matter who they cast, I would just look at it and think, "These aren't the real guys." If it were a biopic, it may work, but not a remake or (re-imagining) as Hollyweird likes to call them now....

I figured that they had given up on trying to make it. I agree with what everyone is saying, this whole movie hinges on the casting. Guess we'll find out soon enough.

I agree 100% with Darktower. Casting will be everything with this movie. No one will want to see this film if the stooges aren't replaced with the best in the comedy biz
