No More Superman for Star Brandon Routh?

Source:  Omlete
Collider's overseas sister site Omlete recently caught up with actor Brandon Routh on the set of his latest film Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World and asked him about the proposed sequel to Superman Returns. According to the actor, It is looking less and less likely that he will return to the role of Clark Kent any time soon.

Routh stated, "I do not know of anything. I am sure that Warner Brothers is moving there, but everything is uncertain. Really, I do not know anything." He says that, "The term contract has expired. But if they call me, I would suit up without thinking twice about it."

A proposed film titled Superman: The Man of Steel was originally scheduled to go into production by 2010, but that isn't likely to happen at this point in the game. It has been speculated that Warner Brothers will totally reboot the Superman franchise, bringing none of its original players back.

"...can someone ban bryan singer from movies! he's one of the worst directors ever!"

-Agreed. Save for starting the 'X-Men' franchise with a bang, that is. X1 and X2 kicked ass!

Too late for a fucking reboot, WB. Should have done that years ago.

Kate Bosworth has a MASSIVE forhead. I couldn't stop lookin at it when i was watching the film. I was tempted to slap it but i'm not allowed to break my TV. Routh was alright, he does a good CK but i'm not so sure about Supes. His Supes was abit dry, lacked the passion Reeves had. Definitley recast Bosworth though.

Brandon Routh is shit he wasnt fit for the role. Spacey is a good actor but having him play Lex was a big fuckin mistake. So if Routh aint in the next Superman i say thats good.

I like Brandon Routh...I just thought Lois Lane (Kate Bostworth) was totally miscast. Kevin Spacey and Parker Posey were great together. But Kate just wasn't right for the role....I saw I think on one of the entertainment shows when there were showing Brandon's audition tape...they had Keri Russell reading with him...I would rather had seen her in the role instead...and for a while I think she was considered. But I wouldn't mind a reboot of Superman...I think it needs to be grittier...I hope they keep Eva Marie Saint as the Mom.

Fuck. Miller had the perfect trilogy. And if DC got with the program on that, and got either Singer back or someone equally good or better, like Peter Jackson or maybe even Richard Donner coming back but with a much better job, then it would be kick ass. But noooo.

And keep Routh. He was a solid performance as Clark and well, it would be unnecessary replacing him.

No, it's not set in the same timeline. It's a diversion.
There is Brando's Jor-El and the photo of the same Pa Kent of the 1978 movie, Ok, but it's a completely different continuity set in 2006, so too much ahead in time from Superman I.
I can't go farther than considering it a requel, a sort of sequel of a movie never made.

Dude, it's a movie. Stop thinking so much, because I don't think Hollywood really gives a shit about continuity.

It was set during the original series, and even if it wasn't(it was, but this is a hypothetical situation so you can understand it), it still shouldn't be considered a reboot. It's too closely related to the original series for it to be considered a reboot. The Chris Reeve look a like, Lex Luthor having wigs, Lois and Supes already fucking knowing eachother at the beginning of the movie...

Again, it's set during the original series. They ignored the last two films in the series. Forget about continuity and just accept it.

You fucking idiots! In Superman I, Kal-El is in his 30's and it was set in 1978. If SR was a sequel, he should have been almost 60 years old.
You morons got assholes instead of mouths. You don't have even the simplest knowledge of continuity.
Grow up!

Brandon Routh did a superb job as Superman. If you get Tom Welling to do it i don't think he will be able to carry it off, as his version of Superman was like a teeny bop kids version.A reboot isn't whats needed. Superman ain't Batman. If you think that you are missing the whole point of Superman. Routh should continue being Superman. If Warner's mess that up i will loose faith. Basically Routh is Superman and should be given a fair shot. He should do the next movie but with a more action packed . It would not be fair to cast him after one movie. He is and will continue to be a great Superman just like Chris Reeves was even though 3 and 4 were poor. If Warner's don't give Routh the next film it will all go wrong again just like when Donner was fired for no reason. Look what happened to the franchise after that it went down hill until Superman Returns. That film made over 4 million dollars so why is that considered a flop. The problem was before Singers version is that they spent so much money getting another version made and directors etc came and went Returns didn't really make a profit. That's Warner's fault not the fans so they should bring Routh back as a lot of fans like him for the part. For the record i thought Returns was a great film. No it wasn't like batman but that's good cause Supes isn't batman. If your a fan you should know that or as i previously said you are missing the point. Please Warner's don't get a new Supes keep Brandon.

SUPERMAN RETURNS was a boring, uninspired mess of a mistake.

Rebooting is another mistake!

A reboot is the only way to go...start from scratch. No Routh or Welling...dig up another promising unknown like Sam Worthington or the guy playing Thor (not them per se, just an example of other talent out there).

Superman Returns was flawed, espicially in Dark Knight hindsight. Routh gets a bad rap, but, he was alright...the Screenplay wasn't.

The Tom Welling/Superman frenzy annoys me. Because quite frankly, he looks like a pansy and acts like a douche: not a stellar combination. ;)

Either keep Routh, or start peddling flesh, and find some new-talent.

Thank You.

GOOD, now put Tom Welling in the suit, ALL 3 of my daughters believe he is Superman, not that wimpy looking Routh.

luca, movie mage agrees with me, and he's got a cool display name AND avatar. People will listen to him over you...plus, he's right, which makes me right. So, why don't you take your "facts" and shove them up your ass where they originally came from.

Returns took place after the second movie. It was confirmed. Deal with it.

Smallville fucking sucks!

Luca it was not a reboot. It left off after the first two, because the last two sucked ass.

Agent VIS is very much correct.

When Superman and Lois engaged in sexual relations at the Fortress of Solitude in Superman II, this allowed for Superman Returns to continue and carry on that storyline through the presence of Lois' son, Jason (Tristan Lake Leabu).

Furthermore, this is why Superman Returns had Superman's son, because he must have been conceived somewhere and sometime, right? As it turns out, Jason was that son and that's why he has super powers similar to his biological father, as can be seen in the film.

Thus, Superman Returns had to follow Superman II, and I believe Singer or someone working on the film had confirmed that Returns roughly takes place between the second and third Superman films.

If that's not clear enough, and you know who you are, then YOU do the math, lol.

i agree with supermanvenor - the latest installment was not routh's issue... it was the director's (and maybe a little Kevin Spacey's). the sequel/continuation/"reboot" was a LAME storyline. Spacey was mediocre as Lex, Parker Posey was a disaster. now that i'm thinking through it again - there was a lot wrong with the new one. routh and maybe bosworth were the only solid parts of that film.

Though more of a tribute to the original films, Superman Returns is still considered a continuation, even if it was looser than John Goodman's stomach...

Okay. Glad that's covered. ;)

I thought Millar was denied permission, due to his association with Marvel. I read that a while ago, but is it still in play.

No! You and people like you, Agent VIS, mistake SR for a sequel.
Superman Returns was a reboot because it was set in a complete different time frame (cellulars, Flat TVs, etc.).
Pretending that after Superman I & II comes Superman Returns is moronic and Singer said that the first 2 movies were just a vague backstory for his film.
In SR Kal-El came on Earth in 1978 but that is the same year in wich Superman I is set, so do your math.

People mistake Superman Returns for a reboot...it wasn't. It took place during the original series, between the second and third film, I believe...so they basically ignored the third and fourth film, which was probably their best bet. It was more like a sequel than a reboot, explaining the Reeve look a like in Routh.

NOW they are rebooting it.
