Variety reports that Universal has tapped Matthijs Van Heijningen for
The Thing remake. The film is to be based on the seminal movie created by John Carpenter in 1982.
This new version will take place in a Norwegian camp and it will examine how the mysterious "shape-shifting alien was first discovered and overcame the inhabitants of that camp."
Ron Moore will be writing the screenplay.
The reboot will be based on the John W. Campbell Jr. short story
Who Goes There. This was also the basis of the John Carpenter film and the 1951 Howard Hawks movie .

Told you guy from the start its a remake.
It basically to put it a remake of a remake in the perspective of a prequel.
Well that in one word 'Sucks' because we know everyone dies in the end.
They are basically rebooting / remaking the film but using the story that opened The Thing, which was what happened before the team got there. Which really isn't that all interesting.
Sounds more prequel than sequel. The Norwegian camp was only briefly shown in the original.
Carpenter's '82 remake is a masterpiece that still resonates chills today. Mind blowing.
