Quarantine It was a blood battle at the box office this weekend. The kids of
High School Musical 3: Senior Year went toe-to-toe with the notorious Jigsaw killer in
Saw V. It was the singing and dancing combination of Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens that defeated and beat those gruesome traps, taking in $42 million for the top spot.
Saw V didn't go down without a fight, though. Despite its run in second place, this fifth installment of the hugely popular horror franchise still managed to nab $30.5 million. That's about $1 million down from the last couple of sequels, but you can guess that those lost audience members got stuck taking their girlfriend or little sister to the above mentioned Disney juggernaught.
This weekend's only other new major release was Warner Brothers'
Pride and Glory, which stars Colin Farrell and Edward Norton. The police drama dropped itself off in fifth place, taking in the small sum of $6.3 million. The film with the highest per screen average was Clint Eastwood's drama
The Changeling. Starring Angelina Jolie, the film grabbed $502,000 playing on just 15 screens.
A few other small releases did quite well for themselves this weekend. The Logo Series big screen adaptation
Noah's Arc: Jumping the Broom drew in $32,200 from just five screens, giving it the second highest per screen average of the weekend. And Charlie Kaufman's strange horror drama
Synecdoche, New York came in with the third highest per screen average, delivering $19,222 worth of ticket sales on nine screens.
Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas 3-D was re-released on 284 screens and brought in $372,000. While the Anne Hathaway drama
Passengers found enough people willing to give it a look for $185,00 on 125 screens.
Look for the kids of
High School Musical 3: Senior Year to stay ahead of the pack next week when their only real competition is the raunchy Kevin Smith comedy
Zack and Miri Make a Porno.

Sorry Vamp
Also, rape, bestiality, murder, child pornography, incest, religious wars, drug overdose, Sarah Palin, etc...that's what makes this a sick world. HSM3 getting #1 just makes it a way-too-easily-entertained world.
My life is ruined.
The only movie that was "good" that had singing and dancing was Grease. Not even Sweeney Todd was that appealing. And it was violent as fuck.
Well...It's being reviewed by an editor right now. Gotta wait a couple months for a response.
Why would a musical make me dumber? Seriously. I mentioned Harold and Kumar 2 because it WAS a movie that I felt dumber after watching(as in it was a shit movie, not 8 year olds are going to watch it. dur.) BTW I listen to bands. It just seems that you have something against singing and dancing, and that to me is not enough of a reason to condemn a movie. Of course if you just said "I don't want to see that movie" other people would understand that you simply don't want to see it.
Also I didn't say I disliked the Saw movies, I said they have run their course. I am kinda tired of "let's play a game" a million times over. Therefore I don't want to see any more Saw movies. At least anytime soon.
As for your plot comment I'll have you know that I have a book actually being considered to be published. I have a meeting in two weeks to hear their response.
"so if your so into it then why dont you joined the gang and take photos of your girlfriend naked and post it online and the news, so parents wont take there kids to go see a slut in a kids movie." That was in reference to Vannessa Hudgens's nude photos, am I right? The fact is, most celebrities do stupid things but the only reason u brought that up is cuz it's HSM. If the guy who's playing Jason in the next friday the 13th hypothetically posted nude photos of his girlfriend online, I think you'd still see the movie, right jr?...Right. And who doesn't want to see her naked?...oh, well besides maniak, who is openly gay, so that comment is double dumb based on the fact maniak wouldn't have a girlfriend to post nude photos of...
All of this doesn't take away from the fact that HSM3 pails in comparison to Saw as far as story goes(which is what REALLY makes a GOOD FILM, not box office). Sure, HSM3 is a musical made for the teenie boppers(i know, i know, i'm 15, but I try to separate myself from the crowd), so it's not gonna be based too much on story, but that just means it belongs on TV or direct-to-DVD, not in theaters so it can steal unnoticing kids' allowance
I'm in a reasoning mood today, anyone else notice?...
you liked saw 1...but not the rest? and yet you seem to rant on about hsm3 a lot more than anything even transformers. so clearly you just want attention cause you have no friends!
And Chad, I thought I read that they are making a Saw VI and VII?
