Johnny Depp Is Tonto in The Lone Ranger and Will Return for Another Pirates of the Caribbean!

Source:  MovieWeb, Walt Disney Studios
Johnny Depp Is The Lone RangerThe excitement just doesn't seem to stop at the Walt Disney Showcase at the Kodak Theater in Hollywood today. Not too long ago, the USC Marching Band began playing the William Tell Overture and none other than Johnny Depp himself came walking out onto the stage, revealing two new projects with just his outfit alone.

He came strolling out onto the stage wearing his full Captain Jack Sparrow costume from Pirates of the Caribbean AND he was wearing the mask of The Lone Ranger as well!

Depp confirmed that he has indeed signed on for both Jerry Bruckheimer's The Lone Ranger and Pirates of the Caribbean 4 to boot.

UPDATE: Disney has just confirmed that Depp in fact is officially signed on to play Tonto in the The Lone Ranger film and not the The Lone Ranger himself.

We'll have more on these amazing developments as soon as more information comes through from this event.

This is awesome news. The Pirates trilogy was awesome (much better on DVD when you can watch them back to back).
As for the LR, they will probably have to cast an unknown actor for the role with a high profile star like depp as the "sidekick". Depp as clooney's sidekick sounds about as exciting as Clooney-O'Donnell. man i hope they're smart in casting TLR.

Well I hope it doesn't become a final decision. For the Lone Ranger I would cast from Patrick Wilson, Hugh Jackman, Keanu Reeves, Colin Farrell, Christian Bale, or Matt Damon... Either way you look at it-Johnny Depp being in it is going to cause the film to gross a few hundred million dollars in the opening weekend.

POTC3 had a lot of negative responses because it was different from the others and had too many plots. It was good, I bought all three dvds because this has to be one of my favorite film series-aside from The Matrix, Star Wars, and Indiana Jones and others. For the whole Lone Ranger flick, I'm not to happy with fact that Clooney is TLR or is possibly, I haven't been up to date but its cool that Depp, with all his Hollywood status is play a supporting role after POTC and Sweeney Todd thats admirable, but I'm still not big on Clooney as TLR

I've got a question for you VIS, would you rather have Depp as Tonto, or Clooney as The Lone Ranger? -.^

Dude, he's playing tonto, not the lone ranger, so it COULD still be clooney...i hope to hell it isn't

POTC3 wasn't nearly as good as the 1 and 2, but it was still good, and epic. Just got weird.

I don't know why everyone's always dissing on "Pirates of the Caribbean 3: At World's End." I loved that movie. It was awesome.

U can have a fav actor and still know when he's not the perfect choice for a role. Twilight, and to anybody else who thinks this is a good idea but doesn't know how to spell, u can carry ur insults over to the clooney thread, cuz i'm going to spill my remaining guts and enthusiasm for this movie all over that RETARDED excuse for a rumor thread...see ya there

Ouch VIS, that hurt. I will see it because he's in it. That's the POINT in having a favorite actor. You'll see a movie BECAUSE they're in it. I admit, I don't know anything about "The Lone Ranger," so what? Just because someone doesn't know the source material, doesn't mean they're retarded for liking it. You people? That's not very nice, but I'm going to ignore it for now. I'm not looking to make fights, and you know that. I'm not going to like EVERYTHING that Johnny Depp was in, either. I didn't like him as Willy Wonka all that well. Also, Depp is a great actor, and as such, he gets looked at for roles. I think you're so angry that Depp is playing Tonto, that you're taking it out on everything else he's done. Also, I'll smile whenever the fuck I want to fucking smile. I was after all fucking joking. I couldn't care less what you think of a movie, it's none of my business that you have an opinion on something. I WILL smirk though, IF you are blown away. Which I don't see happening.

Also, I don't mean to be mean with anything, but there was enough venom in your last comment to spark a little of my OWN venom.
