New Trailer for The Express

MovieFone has posted the first trailer for the upcoming biopic, The Express, which rumbles into theaters on October 3. Click below for your first look at this film based on the true story of football player Ernie "The Elmira Express" Davis, the first African-American to win the Heisman Trophy.


Based on a true story, The Express follows the extraordinary life of college football hero Ernie Davis (Rob Brown), the first African-American to win the Heisman Trophy. His fight for equality and respect forever changed the face of American sports, and his story continues to inspire new generations.

Raised in poverty in Pennsylvania coal-mining country, Davis hurdled social and economic obstacles to become one of the greatest running backs in college football history. Under the guidance of legendary Syracuse coach Ben Schwartzwalder (Dennis Quaid), he became a hero who superseded Jim Brown's achievements and set records that stand to this day.

Decorated veteran Schwartzwalder was a Southerner with a single vision of a national championship and hardened ideas about how the world worked. But though he and Davis clashed mightily, he taught the player everything he knew about football, just as Davis helped him learn the true meaning of victory.

As the growing civil rights movement divided the country in the '60s, Davis became a symbol for achievement that transcended race. Refusing to flinch from others' prejudices, he achieved all his goals-until he faced a challenge that would make most men crumble. He joined the ranks of black pioneers by teaching a generation tolerance, inspiring a movement that smashed barriers on and off the field.

Punisher, If you had to go through what Ernie Davis went through, you woulda cried to momma like a little B*tch. Although the fact that you are most likely a fat loser comic book nerd judging by your user name, I'd be willing to guess you wouldn't know a football from a Big Mac. Let's all go watch another sh*tty comic book movie thats been done a million times only with slightly different characters! Yayyyyy! At least a movie like this one has substance and meaning.

Ok, I normally don't post on these things, but some of these comments are rediculous. First off, the movie is called The Express because Ernie Davis' nickname was The Elmira Express. Secondly, marcusx, you are apparently severely misinformed or biased in your opinions. Slavery ended approximately 150 years ago, not 400 years ago, as you so eloquently put it. Also, segregation was very prevelant well into the 20th century, and the hardships that many of these people went through, particularly athletes who were thrust onto a national stage, deserve recognition. Just because there have been movies about blacks overcoming and triumphing racism doesn't mean that more can't be done. How many tired old romantic comedies that are exactly the same must we endure? Far more than uplifting stories about trials and tribulations and ultimately triumph over racism. I suggest you look a little into the history of Ernie Davis and what his story was all about before you cast judgement about this movie and label it a rehash of the same old story.

miracle is my favorite sports movie as well. i can see what you mean. i would much rather have it be about one specific underdog than a team of them who made it. a team of UDs would get more boring alot quicker. its just that they have done every sport imaginable with a black guy playing who manages to overcome the odds during the 60's to the 80's when racism was more open and publicly and then becomes a hero while winning a white girls heart and turning the most racist of white guys into his best friend. thats what this will be for sure

no i can understand your stance on the fact that they are overplaying the race card in the sports movies, but when ya think of sports, what else could ya use really? I mean there are others like "Miracle" which is my favorite sports movie, but you can only use so many underdog stories pertaining to a team making a run they shouldnt have. At least if you want it to be a true story and maintain entertainment value. Oh well, still looks good to me.

why do we have to recognize african greatness? they were slaves like what...400 years ago? they have had plenty of damn accomplishments over the years and even more movies about it. the last thing im gonna do is pay to see another one. especially over a goof im not familiar with.

for once i would like a different spin on it. like a comedic take on black guy who didnt make it and gets shit for it his entire life. o wait, all i gotta do is look outside in any trashed out neighborhood. prime example, only not as funny. i too would like a lil creativity hollywood, but i wont hold my breath

I think this is an important story for people to see, but the trailer is not doing it justice. I think this new trailer focuses too much on the civil rights part of the story, instead of on Ernie and his life. Not sure this is going to entice general audiences, though I wish it would. I am an SU fan and alumni, and Ernie's story deserves to be told. I hope it is well received.

This trailer is "NOT" new..I saw it several motnhs ago when I went to the movies...also I saw a behind the making of the film on cable as well....still the story looks good...!??!

I agree been there, done that....next...but again anything W./Dennis Quaid ..I'm there!!!
