Kurt Wimmer Set to Write Total Recall Remake

Source:  The Hollywood Reporter
Kurt Wimmer Set to Write {Total RecallIt seems that a remake of an Arnold Schwarzenegger 90s classic has found itself a writer. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Kurt Wimmer has signed on to write the remake of Total Recall for Columbia Pictures.

The original, which was based off the book "We Can Remember It For You Wholesale" by Phillip K. Dick, starred Schwarzenegger as a man haunted by visions of Mars and, after getting a virtual Mars vacation from a company called Rekall, goes to Mars himself to fight with rebels trying to win back control of the air supply.

Neil H. Moritz is producing the remake and, although plot details weren't given on the remake, it was said to be a, "contemporized adaptation." Wimmer also wrote the upcoming films Law Abiding Citizen and Salt, which is currently filming.

I watched this movie last night before I went to bed and I thought...man I bet they're going to remake this, if they can remake fucking Cliffhanger they'll definitely butcher this as well. And then I wake up and read this...irony!

This is sad. Hollywood needs to read up on some other Philip K. dick novels, plenty of good material to turn into films. Even Heinlein has some books that would make damn good films!
I cant take the remakes.

what'll piss people off the most if they start remaking classics like star wars or spaceballs.then people would really be wanting to get their hands around some hollywood big shots throat and wring his fat ass until his face turns purple

i can only imagine.40 or 50 years from now.a new breed of hollywood numbskulls sitting on their collective thumbs with a finger up their nose

Please not James McAvoy, he might be a everyman type, but I find him hard to look at. But this film should not be remade in the first place. Next they will be thinking of remaking the classics like Gone With the Wind or The Ten Commandments.

Just call for a 'blanket reboot' on every film before 2007; that should settle it, completely...

Oooh hollywood, what has happend to you?
You used to make so many original movies and now you are just
re-making and re-making over and over...

Seriously its only been 19 years since it came out and you guys want to re-make it.
What kind of people are in controll of hollywood these days?
Monkeys, thats who are controll of hollywood!

Loved this movie back in the day...it was fun, adventuresome...vintage Arnold and a pre-Basic Instinct Sharon Stone.

This remake/reboot virus has got out of hand...most are bad ideas. I'd say that this source material is pliable enough to warrant an update...

The studio could go in a direction of another charismatic, muscle bound protagonist like the Rock/Dwayne Johnson (if Disney will release their hooks from him) or maybe a more everyman type like James McAvoy (Wanted/Atonement).

If this reboot stars Shia LeBeouf, I'll rent a car and drive to Los Angeles to the Columbia Pictures lot and curse alot/kick random street trash/stick Shia sux/is overexposed/make casting directors actually cast for a change instead of rubberstamping/validating producers' "keep their mansion sheep thinking" flyers on any parked german luxury sedans or Hybrid car of the month nearby. Or something like that...
