StudioCanal to Reboot Cliffhanger

Source:  Variety
CliffhangerIn a story from Variety, the mini-major StudioCanal is teaming up with Neal Moritz's L.A.-based Original Films for a remake of Cliffhanger.

The original film was an action-adventure thriller that took place in the mountains. It was originally directed by Renny Harlin in 1993.

The redo will follow a group of young climbers.

"Just as they rebooted Star Trek, we're going to do the same with Cliffhanger, " stated Moritz, who is slated to produce.

Italy was the location in the first film that stood in for the Colorado Rockies. This new film will take place in "multiple cliff-face locations."

Currently, StudioCanal is trying to attach a screenwriter.

StudioCanal is fully financing this new version of Cliffhanger.

i agree with elicash55, if you know hate them for making crap like this don't PAY for it. Decent attempts like STAR TREK is worth paying full price for. Garbage like this is bootlegged or downloaded. that's what the studios deserve!

Moritz, just because you cited Star Trek as a comparison, I only have this to say...

"ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR VULCAN MIND!!!" :P

(this comment was in no way directed at anyone in particular, but if you felt offended then I was probably talking about you)

I can understand a Star Trek remake, but a Cliffhanger remake? Come on! Like it's going to have the same kind of following that Star Trek has. :P

I would have never thought of this movie to 'reboot' but I did not realize it had made over $255 million. The picture they used here is some cover art from the original film so it does not necessarily mean Sly will be in the film.

I know hollywood is going reboot crazy, but cliffhanger? seriously? You can never top a classic, rarely anyways. They should just call it something else and not just say they are rebooting the movie, cause I am betting all they will be using is the names and thats ir

i really dont agree with illegal downloading, but i might do it to this when its out just to show what a dumb idead it is, the original was good but with differant actors an probably a differant story you might as well call it something else instead of branding it a cliff hanger film so it sells a bit more.
All the 80s action films are getting destroyed, whats next running man, commando, double impact, rocky????

theBD, you're not funny. Psychobilly, you are :)

Just like STAR TREK,...The reporters who interview should have some balls to point out the obvious!

CLIFFHANGER reboot, great so not long before we see OVER THE TOP, TANGO & CASH remakes, yahhhh!

Why, I don't get all these fucking reboots...

May 14th, 2009 12:23am
ok, for starters u must have huge nuts psychobilly in order for this movie to be able to cliffhang from them, prolly too big if u ask me. moving on, this isn't the poster for the REMAKE, this is just a picture representing the original. thirdly, WHY?!?! I agree with I Am That Guy, hollywood or w/e powers that be have completely ran out of all ideas.

lastly, i think the Star Trek comparison means they r goin to some how have Sly go back in time and cuz him not to drop the person in the opening scene, therefore rewriting the history of THE CLIFFHANGER!!!! DUN DUN DUN!!!! dumb idea

My God, why? This is a completely useless remake, what are u rebooting? This isn't a franchise, the original was a great action movie. Soo stupid to compare it to Star Trek

May 13th, 2009 11:14pm
Is sly in the remake?

According to that poster he is.
