Sam Raimi and Kirsten Dunst Will Meet to Discuss Spider-Man 4

Source:  SCI FI Wire
Now that production is starting to crawl forward for Spider-Man 4, the question of securing all of the primary cast has come to the front of everyone's minds, especially the film's main stars, Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst. The director of the franchise, Sam Raimi, recently told SCI FI Wire that he is meeting with Dunst soon to discuss her involvement with the film.

"I'm hoping that she is going to come aboard, and I've got a meeting coming up with her," Raimi said. "I think she would like to. But I don't want to speak on behalf of her."

Raimi was also asked whether or not SM4 might move into the "darker" realm of comic book movies, based on the influence of The Dark Knight and Watchmen. Raimi said that he thinks the tone will be "a direct result of the best style to bring about our writer's screenplay. And as soon as I read that, I will know what that is. Edgy could be a direction, but I don't think it will be applied without really understanding the character's journey from the inside out first and then figuring out the best way to bring that about."

The director went on to say that he wants the film to look into who Spider-Man is, and not just react to the good (and bad) superhero movies that have come out between Spider-Man 3 and Spider-Man 4. He went on to say "I still believe I have an understanding of Peter Parker as the character that I have not quite put onto the screen yet." To make it clear that he wasn't criticizing star Tobey Maguire's performance as Peter, he added "I'm not talking about Tobey Maguire's performance, which I very much love; I'm talking about my understanding of the character. I feel like sometimes a kid at the piano recital. And I know this piece really well. I know it by heart. And I sometimes get it right, and sometimes I don't. But I want a chance to really play it the way I feel it."

Carnage will not be in S-M4. The Lizard will.

Lol, i'm with you on that.

I have faith if there is no Vulture lol. If he puts that old retarded villian in this movie I'm not watching it lol.

Wow, both of those ideas were great. Not to make any predictions of the fourth one, but both of those ideas are probably going to be better than what's going to be used in this fourth installment. Because i am pretty edgy about this sequel. Hopefully it's good.

There is also another idea I have of how it would happen. It could go like Peter showing up while Carnage is beating up MJ. One thing leads to another and the scene ends with MJ dead and Peter knocked out.
Or, Carnage could somehow trick Peter into killing her, or somehting original. Anyway, there are a lot of good ways it could happen.
The most important thing is that her death wouldn't be in the finale. It would happen way earlier.

Raimi wouldn't make Carnage like The Joker. If anything, he would make him more like the Green Goblin, but just a bit more realistic. For instance, Iv'e had this idea in my head of how MJ would die. Instead of planning everything out and basicly advertising it like in the other movies, Carnage would go to MJ's place, throw her around and beat her up a bit, the scene would end before she actually dies. The next scene would be Peter going to her place the next day and seeing a small blood trail(not too graphic because of kids seeing it) to the bathroom and her laying dead with a big crack in the wall from Carnage throwing her into it.
Or, not even showing the whole Carnage part and just having Peter discover it.

That's a good way of putting it, but as much as i would love to see a Carnage, i hope he's not in the fourth one, because i just think they would fuck his character up. My big fear is that they try to make him into something like a Joker type character.

If Carnage is going to be in the fourth one, which I really want him to be in it and there is a good chance that he might be, and he kills MJ, then that would make him so much more menacing. Spider-Man needs a good menacing villian! Also, since Peter would be depressed over it, it would be more of an advantage for Carnage or any villian, which means there would be a tough-ass finale. And more charcaters and depth are opened up to the story. So, in a way, that is everything this franchise needs.

Well, she matters to the main character and she's cared for by Peter. And if that character is taken out by death. You would have to put into the script a huge part about how Peter copes with this. That's not what's needed for this fourth one.

The reason I'm talking about relationships and characters is because Raimi handled it so well with SM1 and 2, but not in 3. And I never said that I wanted Tobey to get into a serious relationship by the next movie. I think they should take their time and develope characters. And I know it's not a romantic movie, but characters are supposed to matter in order for someone to actually care for them and see their purpose in the movie.

Also, it's not Raimi's fault for fucking up SM3. Even if he did, he doesn't have to prove shit. This man has brought a lot to the film industry. He didn't even want to bring Venom in. That was Avi Arad's pushing. And what is up with this dark tone shit. When in the fucking world have you seen a dark tone Spider-Man? You know soon your going to be asking for a dark tone of fucking Tyler Perry movies. Fuck Carnage. Just because a character--you know what fuck it. I hope anyone involved in Spider man 4 did not just read that shitty comment you wrote and actually gave it some thought.

CB this is not a fucking romantic genre film. You want to see some serious relationship shit, then go watch some One Tree Hill.

Kirsten should just be killed off and Tobey should become good friends with another girl by the end of 4, leading him into a serious relationship by the end of the fifth one.
Raimi has a lot to improve on after SM3. This time, don't have the most interesting and anticipated villian (Venom) show up at the very end. Don't make every action sequence completely CGI to where it looks like a Shrek movie, and make the tone a bit darker. They should just decide on brigning in Carnage and another cool villian. But one of the only things that will satisfy me if Kirsten is back will be killing her off, because we all know that her character has become boring and unnessecary.

First off Maguire Sucks. And second, you can't just kill off a main character just like that. A huge character like Mary Jane would have to have the basically most of the story revolved around her and i don't think anybody wants that.

FIRST OFF...THEY SHOULD KEEP TOBEY MAGUIRE BEACAUSE HE IS GREAT!! AND I AGREE WITH EVERYONE SAYING THAT KIRSTEN SHOULD BE KILLED OFF, BUT TO BRING ON A NEW LEADING FEMALE ROLE! NEXT, TOPHER GRACE WAS A HORRIBLE CHOICE FOR VENOM...EDDIE BROCK IS SUPPOSED TO BE A BODYBUILDER!! AND FINALLY DROP THE BAD SIDE!! THAT JAZZ THING WAS TERRIBLE!

Giving this movie a darker realm would be a terrible move. They would just be doing something that Spider man is not about.

where's the script?

April 22nd, 2009 6:13am
Yeah, Aunt May should be killed, Mary Jane should be killed, Peter Parker should be killed and Elijah Wood should come on the scene and take over the role of Spider man. The movies are great but Tobey Sucks!!
  (Delete)
April 22nd, 2009 5:33am
OK.....I want to see aunt May killed in forth film....and MJ must stay fucking low profile. That is one step foward to make a better Spidey movie.

It would not bother me either if Dunst was not involved. I agree VIS, let her come back so she can be killed off.

Sam: Well, Kirsten, we want ya back for the fourth one, but i'm afraid people have lost interest in you, so it's only so we can kill you off...sorry

Kirsten: I'll do it, Spider-Man is my only good gig

April 22nd, 2009 1:53am
I hope that it turns out better than 3. That was a big let down. I hated the thing jazz thing. And I didnt think Topher Grace was the best choice for venom.

Not darker Gotham Night. I love Spidey, and he is not "DARK"!!!! He is a troubled at times, but fun character, and should be interpenetrated that way. Not try to become something else.

I think this will be really good, and Raimi is going to make up for SM3.

April 22nd, 2009 1:13am
It will be interesting to see where they take this. It wouldn't really bother me if Dunst wasn't involved.

Why does the atmosphere of The Dark Knight now come up whenever there is a story about a new comic book film? The Dark Knight wasn't what it was because it was "dark". The Dark Knight was successful because Nolan stayed true to the source material and took it seriously.Coupled with a cast that shared that vision. That is all any film maker needs to do to achieve success with this genre.

Todey and Kristen better be in it. They're the main people who needs to be in it. I like the word "darker". It might make the series much better.

Raimi is such a damn professional. He understands that he swung for the fences wth S3 and blew it big time. Though not all blame goes on his shoulders of course. His answer to whether or not he is gonna take S4 into a "darker" area is just plain and simple, wait until I read the script. If the story calls for it, then go for it, if not, dont force it. As for Kirstens involvement, little to none I hope. Not that she does a bad job, Im just tired of the same scheme to every movie. Someone else needs to be saved besides Mary Jane.
