Legendary Pictures Shifting Gears of War

Source:  The Hollywood Reporter
Legendary Pictures has come on board to co-finance and co-produce Gears of War, a project based on Microsoft and Epic Games' hit videogame.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Len Wiseman is directing with Chris Morgan writing the script. The first draft was penned by Stuart Beattie.

Gears of War centers on a world beset by aliens known as the Locust and a team of soldiers fighting to retake the planet. The violent action title is Microsoft's second best selling videogame franchise, behind Halo. A sequel is coming out in November.

New Line had initially aimed for a summer 2009 release for the picture, but Warner has not yet dated Gears of War.

I justed watched Doom again and its not bad. I'm not a big Karl Urban fan though, except for Pathfinder.

i really liked Urban in it, which is kinda surprising cause i'm not fussed on most of his movies. and the Rock, well... he's the man!!

But yeah I did like Doom, if Karl Urban and The Rock weren't in it, the movie would have sucked major ass lol. I just didn't like how they changed the story of the creatures/demons.

i know, your right! they did fuck about with it too much. but they did that so they could open it up to a movie audience rather than just us sci-fi/gamer freaks! lol

i still loved the movie though, i just wish they had a sequel to make up for their mistakes from the first!

Yeah but Doom's plot got raped when they made a movie. Poor thing. They changed the coolest part about Doom. That's like changing the Halo's Covenant or Gears of Wars' Locusts into machines or like they did with Doom...super soldiers...wtf!? lol

ahh jeez!!!

Chad, The Kwisatz.... picking between the two would be like picking between my kids! (don't have any kids, you know what i mean)

but since we're talking cool video games.. DOOM3 gets a fuck yeah from me!!

They can pretty much have any bad ass play Marcus with a deep voice. The other characters however, need to be dead on. That includes Dom, Baird, Cole, and even the Locusts.

No offense guys but Gears of War destroys Halo. Hands down. It's realistic, violent, better characters, better enemies, better plot, better weapons, better evironments, better dialogue, etc. Halo is the kiddy dumbed down version of Gears of War lol. Gears will pwn Halo any day.

the reason Halo is still tied up, is because the assholes behind it can't come to any sort of agreement!

July 25th, 2008 6:21pm
Sweet!
Still want Halo more. No offense. But Bungie is missing out. Probably after this is a success the a-holes will get their stuff together and make Halo.

They were planning to make Master Chief a supporting character. But Halo should go into production like now. Halo is the first original XBOX game... even though Microsoft created both Halo and G.O.W. we just have to wait.

brilliant!!...... recently got back into playing the game and forgot just how fucking great it is! (stuck on the last level though :(

now i wonder who'll they put in the roles of the characters. Chris Evans anyone?

July 25th, 2008 1:33pm
Ok...so they can finance "Gears of War" but not HALO?!?! Don't get me wrong Gears is going to kick ass on film. But the Godfather of the XBOX is stuck in a rut?

Same here Frenzy. Yes, once again, the already mega-rich arseholes squabble over what's pocket money for them, and the fan looses out. Still. I'm just pleased that this is coming out.

Gears of War is a very good game and could make a decent movie, but I'm still pissed that this movie is being moved on, and Halo is on a shelf somewhere because some corporate assholes can't agree on who gets the biggest cut of the several million dollars they would make.

I enjoyed Live Free or Die Hard, it was able to give hardcore action and a good plot, so hopefully the director will make this shit awesome! And Warner Bros. struck gold with The Dark Knight so hopefully they make the right choices with this film...

Dominic Purcell as Marcus
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0700712/

Mighty Rasta as Cole Train (He did do the voice for Cole)
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0711529/

Can't really think of who would play Baird or Dominic.

god I hope this kicks ass. I liked the game, graphics were sick, game was relativly short which pissed me off, but I enjoyed it. This should be a damn fun movie to watch.

Probably should get a no-namer for Marcus.. but this would be a kick-ass movie, as for the game, not so much. I hope the sequel is better than the original.
