Resident Evil to Reboot the Franchise with the 5th Film!

Source:  Bloody-Disgusting
While Sony's Screen Gems is readying another installment of a popular franchise, it's also looking ahead to reboot the franchise as well. Bloody-Disgusting is reporting that after Resident Evil: Afterlife, which is set for an August 27, 2010 release, the studio is looking to reboot the entire franchise.

The film is tentatively titled Resident Evil Begins and the film was described as a "quasi-reboot."

While it's a long, long, long way off, the idea is to redo the story of a special military unit who fights a powerful, out-of-control supercomputer and hundreds of scientists who have mutated into flesh-eating creatures after a laboratory accident.

We'll certainly keep you posted on any new details about this reboot as soon as we have more information.

They need to stick with the original story that started it all, it would be interesting to see as a film. Zombies walking down hall ways, mutant snakes, and I think Wesker was in the first game.

They better have rotting zombies. If they don't, it's going to suck rotten eggs. Sounds like there is just going to be mutated scientists running around. and no zombies.

The last one got silly with all of the clone Millas. It's the equivalent of Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End. They really need to do this like the original game. They kind of did that a bit, in the original movie, but there were no zombies in the mansion, and the mansion was new. In the original game, the mansion was old, dilapidated and run down, with dead zombies waiting around every corner.

Nice Del Torro/Dr. Strange that would be awesome.

It was me the used 24 as an example, but I also know that it would never happen. Personally I hate reboots and prequels, they should just continue to make something original.

Del Torro/Dr.Strange mix sounds great. He's just the right guy to pull it off.

Even if they did a reboot im pretty sure they would find some way to fuck over this franchise.

Lol I don't any respectable studio will let Boll take on their franchise nowadays. His name is bad. You say his name and people either laugh or shake their heads in disgust. He is a joke to the movie industry. So I don't think I will be worrying about him filming any amazing franchises anytime soon. The funny part is, he doesn't even seem to pick good games other than Far Cry (which I'm sure was hard for him to get approved).

I haven't heard any news on the Gears of War movie since Comic Con. Hopefully they got the budget figured out.

24 was a terrible example don't know why anyone actually brought that up lol. Even though 24 is a great show, it has nothing to do with a "reboot". They don't really reboot shows anyway, unless they are like 10 years later like 90210 or whatever it's called.

I know people who like the Resident Evil films I cannot ever seem to understand WHY. These are the same people who hated Doom, which was exactly the same style. Bit campy, major story changes, and have sooooooo much potential to be completely bad ass. How can you fuck up a movie that has so much in it like RE?

I'd like to see a storyline in the vein of Resident Evil 5. But I guess they could change it up a tad and introduce Wesker into this film and tell you about him in flashbacks (which most films like to do nowadays). Or do the plot from the actual first game, and make a trilogy using Wesker as a repeating villian (in the 1st and maybe in the 3rd final film).

Also to note some new movie news....

Gulliermo Del Toro posted on TOR.Net Forums, that he will be making a big announcedmnet later on today about a new project he has been working on and that it will not interact with his Hobbit production and that he has been working on it for the past 2yrs, this news was revealed yesterday, and he states the the key letter is D.

I dug some dubious research on this and right here well i don't know if anyone has figured this out.

Guillermo Del Toro is to DIRECT Doctor Strange...

People what's your opinions on Del Toro making DOCTOR STRANGE

I'm amped

Maybe, i remember he told him that he would never give a guy like him a hack a shot at MGS, because he wasn't good enough and that he need to stop making up rumours for publicity.
But i remember one of the articles telling one of them to fuck off or something like that.

Yeah if you send him an email with your visualisation and idealisations for MGS, he sends you the documentation all neatly binded, laminated and everything and then they send you the cut scenes on eithe r a DVD-R DL Disc or DVD+R.

Its amazing though that MGS 2 is the longest Screenplay out of all the games. He sent me the screenplays for the games and a documentation documenting the themes and plots of the first MGS and prior to that, i think MGS 2 is just under 300 pages

I think Kojima might have told Uwe Bol to go fuck himself, when he approached him with an offer to direct MGS. Thats what I was referring to. I didn't know that other part.

And also to note Leng is completely accurate, with the whole game studio perspectives this is why Gears of War, Bioshock, Halo are taking long to adapt because the studios are getting tighter with their materials.
But the movie studios dont like this because they want complete creative control

Disagree with you there scientist, these people don't work hard on it because they don't get the feedback from the primary research being US...the FANS.
The just do whatever they like they don't take into consideration what we think to them its just a nice addition to their resume, you think they care about fans, this is literally all about money.
For once i'd love to see someone do a game to film adaptation for the passion of it and for the fans, not just for the nice big paycheque in the end.

Take a look at the first movie installment, the original screenplay was written by George Romero (The biggest name in Zombie flicks) but they turned down his faithfully adapted to the game screenplay, because it would have been rated R and not PG-13.
If you think these producers give 2 fucks about me or you or any of the other fans out there, then they wouldn't continously rape these franchises.
Romero's Resident Evil screenplay was awesome and faithfully adapted from the games and S.D.Perry's 'The Umbrella Conspiracy.'

Also to note Kojima has actually optioned MGS to anyone, if you send him an email of persuasion, he actually sends you the games screenplays and informs you how to get the FMV sequences, but he needs to proof of your screenplays before he makes his judgement on you, the only thing he asks though is that if your screenplay is successfully chosen, then yourself, him and Hayter do rewrites to perfect it

scientist82, I have not played the games, so I guess I'm one of those people you talked about. and guess what? I want great characters and story driven movies, because I am not one of the mindless idiots you make me out to be. So what does making movies for the general population have to do with not having a good story??? If, from what I he, they based it off the games, it would have been better at the box office and the general public, not having heard of it, would be like, that was a great movie! Get my point?

And Leng T'che has great points.

Unfortunately, I believe your right about Prince of Persia. Of all video games that i love, they were shit on, but a game that I really don't have any interest in at all probably will succeed with the movie, lol.

September 8th, 2009 6:36pm
I guess its just an unfortunate situation for die hard fans. At least I hear Kojima isn't letting anybody get their hands on Metal Gear that he knows will fuck it up. He's pretty hard core about telling people to fuck off. I know a big part of that though has to do with Uwe Bol, raping every video game in sight. I'm looking forward to see how Prince of Persia turns out, I think that will be the turning point were producers finally say "Oh! So thats how its done!" I also here that the VG companies don't really look after the property once its sold to insure it's true to the source material. So I don't know I guess we'll see what happens in the future.

Leng', if the movie does flop, I seriously doubt that they would have learned a lesson. Just look a video game films in general. None of them have been great.

Simple scientist82, I want substance. Something none of the movies has. Honestly, if the source material was so good that they wanted to make a movie about it, why then did they have to do something totally different. Believe me the only reason any one originally new about Resident Evil was because of the video games. The fact that they took advantage of the fan base, and then made some bogus bullshit is fucked up. I'm glad to see you enjoyed it so much, at least some one isn't totally dissatisfied. But I my dear sir have been waiting for a real Resident Evil movie to come out. And the fact they're just going to do the same stupid shit over, well, I hope your right and it does flop, so they can finally learn their fucking lesson.

Milla has been the best part of the films so far. She is willing to basically do anything for the films. For someone who could careless for the games only because books, games, true stories and so forth are never the same and people should finally realize that. Everyone involve in making these types of films always try their best some times it works and sometimes it doesn't and I happen to like them very much. You all have to keep in mind that they have to make the film for the masses not just the a certain group of people. They have to think of satisfying the original fan, the people who have not even heard of resident evil, and making money so that films like these can continue to be made by the industry. A 5th as a reboot sounds like a straight to video once Milla is gone I am out. I don't over analyze it, what more do you want? It has a Hot actress, action sequences, explosions, kick as fight scenes sounds like good times to me. So I for one can't wait to see her in the 4th installment.

I don't get it, so they're going to do the same thing as the original but slightly different. Thats dumb. Why not follow the source material. Albert Wesker is an awesome villian, the original story is fucking crazy, why don't they for once do it, instead of this evil computer bullshit. Fucking gay.

Mila is so ugly. What am I saying? All women are nasty looking. Thats why I prefer long hard dick. They should put my beloved James Bond in there or maybe Rambo. Oops I just came a little. Silly me!

There are several people I agree with on here.
Newkill.I have to agree with you about Milla.I saw the last one and looked like she was kinda tired of portryaing that particular character.
Diaigma I do agree with you as well. They should base it more on the games.Because now the games are getting really cool.

And i pretty much agree with anyone who thinks 24 is one hell of a show.I havent missed an episode
