Is a District 9 Sequel in the Works?

Source:  SciFiMoviePage
It seems that one of the summer's biggest films might be sequelized. Director Neill Blomkamp revealed in an audio interview with SciFiMoviePage, that the studio was interested in a sequel to District 9.

Blomkamp stated that there wasn't an official story for a new film yet, but indicated that the studio was certainly interested in a sequel. The director also talked about making the new film a prequel versus a sequel and where to take the Vikus character, played by Sharito Copley.

LOL, well you ready for this part thats only the fucking first act of the film....That technically the beginning so imagine what the middle and end will be like.

Its an original story by Chris Nolan himself, i'm intrigued what he will do without his bro, but apparently Johnathan planned and created the story concept, so where looking on verge of something similiar to Memento.

Brief this is Memento meets Matrix with a big budget

Well apparently the trailer was meant to bring down the hype and then the people that got into the 16 minute previews it was meant to restore the hype even bigger and better in the eyes of those that had seen it.
He goes on to explain Cameron tactics and wanting to bring the people back to cinema and he also states that Avatar is being promoted quite poorly by Fox and that people keep getting it muddled up with Shaymalayan's Avatar: The Last Airbender.

Sam then goes on to the finish to state that Avatar wasn't built for the cinema screen... it was built for IMAX 3D

I'm gonna throw in my 2 cents and say that a prequel would, in this case, be pointless and far less satisfying than a sequel. It would piss me off if they made a prequel when they already set themselves up for a perfectly good sequel that promises so much greatness. I would love to see what happens when the aliens return to Earth and the shoe is on the other foot.

I agree with ComradeHenson. A sequel could bring us realistic astro-politics.

I wonder if Worthington just doesn't like the movie. There are actors out there who don't like some of their movies or performances.

I hope that Worthington thing is a joke, because that's the dumbest since of marketing ever. I've never heard that type of marketing before. Now, I'm definitely not going to see Avatar.

not surprised about Deadpool. Too bad, was looking forward to Green Lantern.

ok well since this will becomea pretty hot topic enjoy this news

Green Lantern may get delayed / halted along with Deadpool

Production hasn't even started yet on Martin Campbell's Green Lantern movie and already there's trouble. Production was set to begin in September in Australia. What might be able to do what Sinestro couldn't? The rising Australian dollar has "blown out production costs" for the movie according to Inside Film.

Warner Bros. is trying to negotiate to get higher concessions in order to deal with the massive difference in cost since the Australian dollar climbed more than 16% since the April decision to film was announced. Basically studios make deals to shoot in certain cities (or countries) as work on the films creates a lot of jobs for locals.

What does this mean for Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps? They're not defeated just yet. What could happen if the difference in the value of the Australian dollar is too much, production on the movie may have to move to another city/country. That doesn't sound too bad except it could delay the release of the movie. The movie has already been changed from a December 2010 release to a June 17, 2011 date. This could affect those waiting for Ryan Reynolds to reprise his role as Deadpool as well.

Cars 2 gets its full title which is something like Cars 2: World Grand Prix.

Dakota Fanning to star in a Wizard of Oz Sequel

The Avatar according to Worthington sucked on purpose it was a marketing tactic along with the 16 min preview.

LAST BUT NOT LEAST INCEPTION PLOT DETAILS
BEWARE THERE MAY BE SPOILERS AHEAD READ AT OWN WILL

Neither the plot summary nor the teaser trailer for Christopher Nolan's "Inception" have given fans any clues regarding what to expect from the movie. But InContention got its hands on of several story details, which appear to be from the first act and are very scattered.

SPOILERS AHEAD:

"Inception" takes place in a world where people can enter other people's dreams. Cobb (Leonardo DiCaprio) is a CEO type, who illegally dives into dreams to extract information. He does this via a portable device, which is basically an injection into the bloodstream. In one scene, Cobb's team enters a person's dream while on an airplane.

The team who creates the dreams is comprised of Arthur (Joseph Gordon-Levitt), Eames (Tom Hardy) and Ariadne (Ellen Page), a young college student who is considered the "architect."

Fischer (Cillian Murphy) is a business-type who is soon to become the head of a company. Cobb's team is attempting to insert an idea into his mind to compel him to split that company in two.

The only real villain in the story is Saito (Ken Watanabe), who blackmails Cobb, but Cobb's wife (Marion Cotillard) also causes some trouble for the main character.

At one point, both Cobb and his wife are stuck in a dream and the wife tries to convince him to stay in that world, which she considers much better than real life. Cobb, however, wants to return to his children. Later on, the wife commits suicide in the dream in order to come back to the real world. When Cobb also comes back, he is charged with his wife's murder and has to flee with his children.

With $81,152,565 already in contrast to its $30,000,000 budget, then I figure a sequel is more promising than it would be had it been randomly announced.

I would want to see more of a sequel then a prequel. A sequel would be good cause it left it open for one.

August 25th, 2009 3:25pm
If an original film is good it's good forever, even if there is nothing but bad sequels behind it. Just look at the Lethal Weapon franchise. 1 and 2 are still considered to be terrific action flicks, even though 3 and 4 were pieces of shit.

August 25th, 2009 1:59pm
I agree. A prequel would not bear a story anywhere near D9. I think the next will be called D10 where the aliens moved. But yeah, a sequel would be cool. I mean the original is a soon to be classic, and a sequel COULD ruin it. But I highly doubt that since everyone will be returning. The ending was great, and was meant to be open for a sequel, not a prequel.

No prequel, it has to be a sequel. What happens when Christopher comes back? Thats an interesting story.

August 25th, 2009 1:27pm
District9 is a great, original sci-fi movie with equal parts brains and fun...a prequel or sequel would just mitigate its legacy.
  (Delete)
August 25th, 2009 12:21pm
A prequel would just be wasted effort. Show us something new. The first was a great apartheid narrative. With the return of Christopher we might have the opportunity for one of the first films ever to depict realistic astro-politics. How do we deal with a race different than our own? Can we make the relationship work?

August 25th, 2009 12:04pm
true i see your point VIS, but a prequel in my opinion would draw me in more than a sequel, we all know what happens when there is sequels, as long as this movie stays away from the Hollywood ideas, they are good either way

August 25th, 2009 12:01pm
Too bad they already told all of what you just described in the film, king brady. A prequel is pointless.

August 25th, 2009 11:57am
how can you not see a prequel?? They can do so much with a prequel, having it done twenty years prior, when they first arrived, the humans basically ripping them into nothing and forcing them to live in these shanty's, how people in South africa adapt to the time of them benig there....its very possible, but using Wikis in the prequel to my opinion wont do well, the man was a bumbling idiot until he became in contact with the fluid, then he plqayed amazing....i think they can do a prequel have it elapse time from first arriving to earth to wikis promotion, see how wikis became married to the girl and her father's role, his feelnigs towards them from whatever age he was when they arrived

I can see a sequel do to how it ended, but I can't invision a prequel...

August 25th, 2009 11:24am
I agree a sequel would be best...but the part I dont like is that there isn't an official story for a new film, meaning there in the open with nothing. This could be a hit or miss....

this would make a good trilogy.

August 25th, 2009 10:49am
The film leaves room for a sequel, but I rather it remained a stand alone classic.

If they feel the need to make another film, don't do a prequel.
