Guy Ritchie Discusses Sherlock Holmes

Source:  USA Today
Movie PictureWriter/director Guy Ritchie (RocknRolla) discussed details of his upcoming crime drama, Sherlock Holmes, with USA Today.

Based on Lionel Wigram's comic book, the film stars Robert Downey Jr. as Holmes, who is said to be more adventuresome and take advantage of his skills as a boxer and swordsman.

Read what Guy Ritchie had to say:

"It will be a very big production, visceral and intellectual," Ritchie says. "His brilliance will percolate into the action."

The expected 2010 Warner release will be set in the olden days, he says, but the emphasis will be as much on Holmes' physical prowess as it is on his keen powers of deduction.

"His intellect was as much of a curse as it was a blessing," Ritchie says. "He was a deeply layered character."

No word on the villain yet, but there will be a love interest based on Conan Doyle's Irene Adler. Casting is expected to be finished in six or so weeks.

Ritchie already has been lucky to snag Robert Downey Jr., hot off of this summer's Iron Man and Tropic Thunder, as his lead.

Production is set to start filming in the fall.

will some-one tell "Vamp2000" that he is allowed to hate on an actor if we wants, but he must understand that there will be prices to pay for such things, espes if it involves one of my favourite actors... lol

i'm just fucking with you, you idiot!! lol

LMAO, nice Rad. So they're making a retarded COMEDY Sherlock with Will Ferrell and Sacha Baron Cohen, and then a serious one with Robert Downey Jr.? Well, I know which one I'll be seeing. Then again, though I hate Will Ferrell, Sacha Baron Cohen redeemed himself with his role in Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, so maybe I'll be seeing both. Not sure as of yet. Guess what? I'll wait for a trailer on this one too.

What's up with the Hugh Laurie hate? I'm all for RDJ, but that doesn't mean Laurie would be bad for the part or the movie. And I've seen him playing a puff in his Black Adder days and a goofball in Jeeves and Wooster. What does his British TV shows have to do with now and how is it a detriment to his acting ability? That's like saying Downey Jr. would suck because he played on Ally McBeal and was in The Shaggy Dog.
