A blockbuster sequel only needed one day to enter the record books this week. According to
Variety,
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen broke the single-day Wednesday box office record with $60.6 million.
The Wednesday haul destroyed the previous record of $44.2 million, which was set in 2007 with
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. The film is playing in more than 4,200 theaters and $16 million of the film's first-day take were from midnight screenings.
Box office analysts predict that the sequel's five-day haul to be somewhere between $150 and $170 million.
