Sony Moves Ahead with Spider-Man Spin-off Venom

Source:  Sci-Fi Wire
Sci-Fi Wire recently found out that Sony is moving ahead with its proposed Venom spin-off, which will follow the adventures of Spider-Man's most popular nemesis. Zombieland co-writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick were hired to write the screenplay.

In a recent interview, Wernick confirmed to Sci-Fi Wire that a draft of the film had recently been turned into Sony. The writer stated, "We've written two drafts of Venom, and the studio has it, and they're pushing forward in whatever ways they push forward."

When will the film go into production? Wernick said, "We're not sure, [but] we've turned in our two drafts." Will it have anything to do with the upcoming Spider-Man 4? "We can't really talk about that, unfortunately. Basically, the studio and Marvel and the Arads are taking our drafts and going beyond and figuring out what's the next step."

Yeah Sandman looked great, but his story was soo lazy. He's bad guy but not by choice even though he obviously is making a choice to do bad things lol, makes no sense but they tried to go with that.

Yeah Sandman was a huge disappointment in 3. He was visually spot on, but they made him too much of a sissy. I would like to see Dr. Connors get turned in to Lizard. Or do Scorpion but i would too see his outfit looking alot like the Green Goblin..

I have a feeling Sam would make The Vulture like how he made Sandman, which would be lame. And I have feeling he'd look too much like Green Goblin in the first film (body suit wise) except without a helmet. I doubt he would make the wings be really attached to his back.

As much as I like Venom, he's not my favorite villain. I do like the other villains, but there is one that really stuck out that is worthy.
He's not only a pain in the back side for Spiderman but also Daredevil. Yes, you guessed, Wilson Fisk. Micheal may have done an all right job, but the character is one of the most important.
It has to be a big fat white man since Fisk controls and manipulate both heroes and uses their enemies as much as he can.

I wouldn't mind seeing a Venom film, but I'm not all that excited to see it. All these comic book characters need to stop coming to the big screen for a while.

SupermanEmpire, the fans want this. They want justice done to Venom. He was only the worst adaption of a character but is a huge fan favorite and they would pay extra to see him done right.

And bawnianxyz and Chad Vital. Both great costume ideas. My personal still would be Vulture because if he is like a mutant, we could see an epic aerial battle. And Rhino would be a great secondary character.

Electro, if more of a payable player like in the early New Avengers, he could be a great time passer as well. Especially in dark black. :)

Venom is a great character, I just don't know how he'd do in his own film.

I'm for a new look, as long as the lightning bolt "logo" is on him somewhere. (Electro that is)

Venom is the best and most misunderstood villian in the spider-man series. Just because the studio had bad casting and worse carry through does not mean they cannot fix it in the spin off. Personally I would like to see Carnage if they can find someone to pull off the maniacal way as well as Ledger did the Joker.

There's a typical studio move, take the worst character, of the worst enstallment of your most beloved franchise and make a fucken spin-off. Sony so stupid! Fans will spew blood and want the balls of all involved.

I would like to see a villain like Electro, Vulture, Rhino, Shocker, or Hydroman done in Spiderman 4 but that wont happen because Raimi has already said Lizard will be the primary villain and the secondary one will be " someone with great influence on the city", so it will be Kingpin.

hmm...well, look at it this way...its a movie anda comic character, and as time goes by, each villain gets a new look, so, sony can go with the classic gree suit with yelow mask or...black cote with a neo electrical mask with a bolt in the center
and i vote for wither this dude(electro) or rhino(rhino can give spidy a run for his money if directed well and created tough

oh,but Electro with the mask kinda looks like a cliche, dont ya think?

I think Josh Hartnett would make a good Electro or at least a better choice for the role of Ghost Rider.

Which is weird that I mentioned Dr. Doom who has the same abilities lol.

I would love to see Electro too, and I kinda like his mask and I have a feeling they would totally change what he looks like. As in him not wearing any type of mask at all (which is more believable I suppose). I'd rather have the revisioned look more like Dr. Doom than that one image online where he looks like Mandurin lol.

October 2nd, 2009 9:32pm
Idk they made Goblin look like a power ranger lol. And they can revise what he looks like. Like instead of a grey latex looking outfit, it could be all tridium or however you spell it (that metal-ish material Doc Ock used). So, imagine this 12 foot tall guy who was a soldier experiment gone wrong with some bionic metal suit covering his whole body. It'd be kinda like the Hulk mixed with armor but not nearly as unstoppable (otherwise Spiderman would never win lol).

Thank you Lankstun.

And Chad, I like your idea of Rhino going down a packed street smashing everything in sight, and it would be pure eye candy, but wouldn't the rhino suit itself be a bit over the top, even for a spider man film?

October 2nd, 2009 11:26am
yup me and Fallen have the right idea here

and with today's special effects electro would be

the best choose for a villian

Raven, I was just saying out of those villians who would be good, not all of those villians in one film lol. Don't even know where you got that.

umm Chad, thats too many villians...remember Spider-Man 3 how that turned out?Raimi should just pick The Lizard or Rhino ans as for
Kraven.....sounds a bit like a chliche.

I'm talking to CBf, Chad, and whoevers a fanboy on this thread stating what would be cool o uncool. And before you go on about how the studios don't care, don't go on this site, or nobody cares, and start calling me stupid and all that (if your that type of guy, not saying you are) then save it, because its a movie site and I felt like fucking sharing after a spontaneous/random idea. That answer your random(er) question?

who the heck are you talking to

October 1st, 2009 2:10am
Okay I now have a different opinion on The Vulture in hopes of them making him like a mutant. I would love this setup:

Spiderman 4 villains - Lizard and Vulture. Vulture would be able to relate to the Lizard telling him he knows what its like to be different.

Spiderman 5 - Carnage and Electro. Please baby please.
  (Delete)
October 1st, 2009 2:00am
The vulture would be overly corny, and they'd try to make him a suit not actual wings and stuff. But if he looked like Angel, from X3, then that would be fucking sick!!! And aerial battle would be the perfect spidey thing.

September 30th, 2009 11:51pm
xedgex, there's already been 2 movies with a goblin, it'd be kinda lame. Too much can be a bad thing. I suppose however, Hobgoblin would be better than The Vulture or Morbius in my opinion.
  (Delete)
September 30th, 2009 7:17pm
A venom movie would be sick as he is the best Spider-man villain by far. And as for Spider-man 4. One of the villains should be Hobgoblin, and they should do him right, unlike the Green Goblin whom just looked retarded.

September 29th, 2009 9:24pm
See if I say Rhino everyone gets all upset haha. I think he would look great in the film just as a tool of destruction. I mean the action scenes would be sick. Seeing him running down the street knocking over cars and smashing into buildings and what not. Juggernaut would have been cool too but they used him in X-Men :/

I'd like to see either Electro, Rhino, Mysterio, Carnage, The Lizard, Scorpion or maybe even Shocker. Any of those guys could be a list or b list villians.

September 29th, 2009 6:54pm
I'm pretty sure the other villain with the Lizard will be either Kraven or Electro. They did want Mickey Rourke for a villain back in March when he signed on as Whiplash for Iron Man 2. It's pretty obvious they wanted him as Kraven.
