Fox Renews 24 for Two Additional Seasons

Source:  Variety, FOX
Variety reports that Fox has ordered two more seasons of 24, keeping the Emmy-winning drama on the network through the 2008-2009 TV season.

Executive producers for 24 have already told several publications that they plan to make some changes on the show next season - but the twist will remain the same: Each episode covering one hour of real time as special agent Jack Bauer races against the clock to stop something bad from happening.

20th Century Fox TV and Imagine TV are behind 24, which winds down its sixth season Monday with a two-hour finale.

UPDATE ... Here is the official press release from FOX:

As the clock ticks toward the climactic final two hours of 24's Season Six on Monday, May 21 (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT), FOX has extended the Emmy Award-winning series for two additional seasons through 2008-2009.

24 was last year's most Emmy Award-winning television series with five Emmys, including Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series (Kiefer Sutherland) and Outstanding Drama Series. The show promises to combine its unique and trend-setting format with compelling new elements. Each episode will cover one hour of real time, and the season's entire story will take place in one terrifying day. Viewers again will follow Jack Bauer through a day that none of them will ever forget.

24 has been nominated for a total of 51 Emmys, including five each for Outstanding Drama Series and Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for Sutherland. 24 also has received 11 Golden Globe nominations, including five for Best Television Series - Drama (winning for Season Three) and five for Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Drama (with Sutherland winning for Season One).

I'm getting a little tired of Bauer and company, but I'll definitely tune in for the next 2 seasons (even if I record all the ep's on the DVR and spool them off at the end of the season...) :)
