* Required a LOT of 'suspension of disbelief'. But so did the original.
* Acting was campy (to match the writing). But same for the original.
Overall, a solid entry and a show I'll record on the DVR to watch late-night weekends.
The new KITT is great! Yeaaa.. I am partial to the old KITT voice (even though he sounded like a drag queen on steroids... LOL). I guess because I used to watch this show when I was younger!!!!
Oh yea... It would have been real Kool if at the end of the show.. The Hoff was seen driving away in the old KITT!!!!
But it's all good!!!
I do think they should of kept the original original voice from the original show...that will truly always be kitt...i know that guy is still alive too..its MR. PHEENY from Boy meets world...
I liked the show..i agree with setl73..some acting parts were corny..but the show as a whole wasn't that bad..I do wish they went with like a new transAm tho....the mustang is cooh..buuuuuttt...ima TA kinda guy...I bet they will eventualy make David Hasselhoff part of the cast...like a mentor or something..I always thought that if they didn't do thet series, that they coulda done a movie for knight rider with the rider being like chris tucker....well chris tucker back in the rush hour 1 and 2 days...can you picture chris talking back to kitt..that would be funny..cuz that's part of the whole thing with knight rider, the smart alec talk with kitt and the driver, michael knight was the same way....
I thought the new effects on the car repairing itself (when it was damaged) were excellent. This was a much better take on KITT's damage resistance than the older version that had bullets just bouncing off the windows and glass, etc. But of course, that was a long time ago. KITT's morphing was also excellent.
The music was good as well; from the opening new take on the old theme, to the songs played throughout. I think I may have even heard White Stripes in there?? Good stuff.
A couple of cheesy dialogue scenes, but not enough to take away from my overall positive impression on a quality MFTV movie.
Sadly, I think the movie's weakest points were the acting by Justin Bruening (Mike Traceur) and Sydney Tamiia Poitier (Agent Rivai). I wouldn't go as far as to say they ruined the show, but some of their parts were distracting.
Overall I give it a solid B. Great special effects, surprisingly interesting storyline, Cameo by the Hoff, and one hell of an awesome car. I think Kilmer was actually very good as KITT.
Also, no matter what you think about GM vs. Ford, etc, etc...you cannot deny (in my opinion) the coolness of that KR. OK...maybe I'm biased being a Ford fan... ;)
Sure I liked the original TA from which KITT was originally based, but hey...I also liked Bumblebee as a VW as was OK with the Camaro switch. I also would have rather seen Jazz as a Porsche...but we live in an era of marketing dictatorship. It's just something we have to deal with. You can blame it all on BMW pushing for the James Bond film to be a commercial for their new Z3 (I'm not a Bond fan, so I cannot tell you which one it was...Goldeneye, perhaps?). Even I know that the Aston Martin DB5 was Bond's car...and wouldn't it have been nice to see the new DB7 in that movie? Instead, Bond fans were stuck with a little four-cylinder roadster to replace an iconic English sports car.
Oh well.
And now you know.
And knowing is half the battle.
Cheers
thats my favorite show when i was kid :)
Val Kilmer just isn't cutting it as far as I am concerned.
I'll check it out, but only because I was a fan of the original series...and because I love Mustangs.
Hopefully it will be better than the Sarah Connor Chronicles ...lol
