  • Iron Man 2 features Nick Fury as a character, he stands as the head of SHIELD, its in the nature of his dialogue to mention the Avengers, because that is his aim to create a league of Superheroes to save the world when needed and when the world is in danger. That's not a marketing ploy, yourself being a story conceptualist and screenwriter, should know that is natural dialogue. Point well made on Supes... Pre-Production development is still an aspect of the pre-production stage though. i'm still young and learning but i know my fair share, and also for the contrary having an IMDB profile doesn't really get you anywhere. You don't really walk into a job interview for screenwriting a film or filming a project asking the interviewer to look at your IMDB CV, you hand them a piece of material weather its on disc or a laminated and binded SCRIPT, well that's how its always worked for me. Also IMDB don't always put up the proper crendentials you maintain, of course that is unless you pay the extra fee to have complete control over your profile. Also for some obscure reason the word 'SCRIPT' can't be spelt in lower case on movieweb for some reason, i think there is some flaw in the html coding, its been like this for a while now.

  • That wasn't very polite lol. I think JA is saying he has more credibility than most. Most people can't actually admit that ya know? I'd like to think I know what I'm talking about but I know JA knows more than I do which is perfectly okay. I know there are things you know more than I do as well Del, it's just the way it is. JA is usually right about things hence why I don't really ever argue with him lol. I can only imagine his apartment or house when you walk in you are swimming in movie s and drafts from all over the world haha. Back to the discussion at hand, you both are right. Marvel wouldn't just "put in" a short scene at the end for the fun of it lol. It had purpose. I think original it might have been more of a "let's put this in an see how the audience reacts to it" type of judgement. Not suprisingly it has spread like wild fire of Marvel fanboys and the alike. Hell, even girls at my work who don't even know some of the characters mentioned it to me which is pretty cool. It's getting around. I had not heard about Avatar until last year and it was just some news update nothing special and I still had no idea what it was. Actually, I kinda still don't lol. Their little deion of it sounds cliche "marine on a unknown world befriends and helps some alien race" lol. Hopefully it's more than just that and eye candy. It really hasn't gotten me excited for it. I'm sure it will be a good film, but I'm definitely not hyped up about it. I am more hyped up about The Avengers for sure. I don't even know how they are going to make that story work with those characters. Most of them can tie together with technology like Iron Man and Captain America suits/his shield and Thor's hammer etc. But Thor's so out in left field story wise how would you tie that into a modern Iron Man-ish realistic film? Unless they are making Thor very modern I just don't know how it would work story wise. Can somebody help me (maybe they explain it in the cartoon films) I just don't know.

  • What are you talking about there's no marketing ploy in Iron Man 2. Didn't you watch the leaked footage from comic con this week? It's the first scene on there, and it ain't short. Of coarse if Superman walks around Gotham it doesn't mean shit, but if Superman all of the sudden walks into Wayne Towers and tells Bruce Wayne I'm putting together a super group, your gonna tell me that that doesn't say something of a lead up. You got me there, Fox did buy the rights in 95, but its been in production hell for almost ten years. I think your confused with development, and pre-production. Development, is when they prep the material and make sure its ready to give to a producer and production manager to start pre-production, which is where they start crewing up, casting, getting the s lined and so forth. As for your PD.150 line, I'm not even going to dignify that with a response. I felt like tearing you limb from for that one, but I respect that your trying to make films and it would be a stab at myself when I was just starting out. I understand you need to make every body know your a Writer/DIrector, and that you write SCRIPTS (I understand what that is by the way, all caps doesn't suddenly clarify it for me in a whole new light), but your over shooting it, your trying to hard to be regarded as one when you have nothing to really show. Just humble your self a little more, and stop trying to act like you know the bottom line, cause really PD150s, Final Cut, and no IMDB credits don't buy people a lot of credibility.

  • Actually Jon Faverau confirmed there wont be a marketing scene/ploy for avengers in iron Man 2. What i'm pointing out is that despite the build up there might not be a Avengers movie, its a possibility. Freddy vs Jason went through a decade build up, hype and wait before it was made. The same can happen to Avengers. So basically your saying that if clark kent decides to waltz through Gotham that automatically indicates a World's Finest or Justice League movuie is on the way. No it doesn't considering that World's Finest actually got scrapped for Batman Begins & Superman Returns. Cameron started proposing Avatar in 1995 to studios in which Fox picked up the rights and stated that the technology made to creat this film wouldn't probably be avaliable for another 5 - 7 years, there fore Avatar by the time it was being shipped around to studios, it was in a pre-production status, because Fox bought the rights to it ages ago 1996 i think or 1995 I know this kinda stuff, i write concepts, outlines & SCRIPTS for films, direct films and film them on a Sony PD.150 and lastly edit them in FCP

  • Heres the deal my facist buddy, when you have a sequential display of marketing at the end of films, (especially at the beginning of a franchise) you can tell they have serious intentions to follow up, otherwise what's the point. The people behind developing the Avenges franchise were well aware that there was money involved in building up to a grand Avengers movie otherwise there wouldn't be a Thor and an Captain America movie in development, as well as an extended scene within Iron Man 2 (not even a wait to the end of credits free-b ) that leads us to believe that the Avengers movie is coming up. Really, to look at it straight on,cwhat they are doing it smart. Instead of doing it backwards like the X-men franchise that had a trilogy first and is now developing individual origin stories, the people behind Avengers is doing a kind of tease gag building it along until the grand opus that will be the Avengers movie. Mind you the Avengers have never been a group that was easily put together, the way the story arc and marketing campaign is playing out to the actual source material; it's really working to their advantage. As far as what your saying about the pre-pro for Avatar, just because a person rights a doesn't mean any actual shit and you should know that. It's not till a studio buy's it as an actual property where it gains any kind of serious development. Yes, understandably Cameron wrote a first draft, and as much as he said it was going into production the next year after he did so, it constantly fell into production hell as you so call it. So in turn, Avatar, since it's '95 conception has been on Cameron's backburner until recently where the technology and time have found a suitable period to be produced, and has find an actual studio to produce it, and therefor put it into pre-production. Otherwise, it's just been one Cameron's mind as prospective project since '95, and no studio has approached it with consideration of any sort of budget or what not. Look, I've written s and concepts for films but it doesn't mean they've gone into pre-pro just because I say someone besides me is interested in it. Until some one buy's the property and says lets do this, nothing is actually going on. Newkill: Sweet lord, I miss the good times when you can curse at people and they can understand what your saying even though your insulting them. It seems that you have to talk like an educated motherfucker just to get some one's attention even though you know that what your saying is making sense, though if you don't talk politely they turn on you and make you look like an imbecile. What is this world coming to where we have to conform to these assholes. Seriously, what i can get across to you in a few fucks and shits and go fuck your self's is dragged on to an educated discussion with these pretentious fucks that takes too long to type out. Oh well, good news...I'M DRUNK!!!! HAHAHAHAHAH! Fuck Every One!!! And I still know what I'm talking about, So double fuck every one!!!! HAHAHAHAHA!!!! Except Newkill, cause the worst of enemies are the best of consultants in the the face of bigger deusch bags!! HAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAH HAHAHAHAHH!!!! This mother fucker laughs last, and any thing said to this end comment only buys into my motherfuckery! FFFFUUUUCCCKKKK YOUUUUUUUU!!!!( Last coment said in Arnold Shwartzenegger voice, via Total Recall era) Ah lovely. Oh well, don't any one pay attention to this, remember I'm wasted. But still, seriously, go fuck your self ; )

  • I agree with Lock and Stock. This will not be another Waterworld. That was just a reason to open a stunt theme water park. The only thing good about that movie was delicious Jean Tripplehorn. The worst was Dennis Hopper. I did like him in Land of the Dead though. Movies today are raising the detail bar in movies to dizzying levels. And Hollywood is starting to learn it's lesson. You can't just have a movie with a bunch of flashes and smoke and mirrors. A good story is a must for total success. I know that there are exceptions. Transformers for one, but if this is to blow up, effects alone won't save it. That's what they spent so much time working on, with Waterworld.

  • Actually Todd89, Caneron has done it all. He often takes the camera away from the cameraman to take the shot himself. It's how he's garnered his control freak stigma. I like his movies, but everbody says the same thing. He's a control freak. That's why Leo D. didn't show up at the Oscars for Titanic. He didn't want to contribute to the Cameron hoopla. But I hear ya. He should just let the people do their jod. He "alien"ates and insults people that way. He just wants his work to be the best it can be and doesn't really care about making frinds. Nine times out of ten he must be right. His movies are some of the coolest inovative work to come down the pike. He needs to get back inthe game in a big way, because Jackson is showing him up!

  • precisely my point, i was also using it in context of how long it can be until these things happen or progress, FVJ took a decade of pre-production hell. Also did you know that as soon as Newline Cinema snagged the rights to the Friday Franchise off Paramount. They started pre-production on Freddy Vs Jason before Jason Goes To Hell and Jason X. you can even find some of the early drafts on the net of the different SCRIPTS and the storyboard to the original ending on the 2-disc dvd to FVJ and the pre-production hell of FVJ. The fans of Friday and horror film fans would have gone to see it though

  • But you know J.A, i doubt if people wouldn't have seen Freddy's hand come up after Final Friday, it would not have made the good money it did and it probably would have never been made. People saw that hand and that's all they talked about for years until someone finally came down and made it.

  • That doesn't nessceraily mean, a Avengers movie was on the way, that's just a hint that it was a plasuibility it could happen. It's not a confirmation, for all we know Avengers might hit production hell and never get made until a suitable profitable budget is delt out. Take example Jason Goes To Hell (1993), the end sequence with Jason's mask implied that a Freddy Vs Jason movie is a possibility now, it didn't mean it was a confirmation, its an excuse to create a wicked cliffhanger and leave the fans in anticipation for more. A decade later of pre-production hell, Freddy and Jason finally duel it out glove to machete on Elm St and Crystal Lake. And technically pre-production starts for a film, once a proposal, treatment or SCRIPT is made and handed out to studios, that was 1995, considering the 1995 draft to Avatar was a treatment. Therefore this film has been in pre-production for 14years, in production for 4yrs. Also talk of the avengers, well the lil snippets your talking about at the end of the Marvel films including the Avengers didn't start until 2008 which the first previewed at the end of the Iron Man credits explaining that Nick Fury (Samuel L Jackson) wanted Iron Man to Join a team he was creating called the Avengers.

  • That's a great point Delgren. I never thought of those ending after Hulk and iron man that way.
  • Technically, The Avengers has started a marketing campaign by putting in those little clips of Nick Fury, and Tony Stark at the end of the Iron Man and The Hulk. It causes a viral marketing campaign that gets people telling other people to stay after the credits to get a heads up about the upcoming Avengers movie. Right there the talk has already started and that's all they really need. Avatar hasn't had anything like that to give it any kind of promotion and an 80pg first draft written in '95 doesn't really count as pre-production. Pre-propuction didn't really start til 2005.

  • You know Avian. I thinks it's the fact that he's not really an asshole anymore. Back when he was doing Aliens he was pissing off the actors shouting and yelling at them. Now, he seems too much of a nice guy. He needs that spark back.

  • Cameron's being a asshole for so many things. I'm losing interest, so are a lot of people by the looks of it.
  • Well Delgren, Avengers hasn't started a marketing compaign yet either? Let's not forget that Avatar has been in pre-production since 1995

  • Soylent, your right after Titantic I've just lost faith in the guy. I'm mean i know it won an oscar and the top money making film, but the effects was the only thing that movie had going for it and the effects used were just so dated. The story was so bland and dull. Cameron has to do something other than this 3d shit to show me that the guy can really do his thing like Aliens, Terminators 1 and 2.
  • Well, it's kind of hard to expect people to know about it if they haven't launched a marketing campaign yet. Aside from die hard movie fanatics that need to know whats going on every waking minute, most people wont know whats happening or coming out until the commercials start to hit.

  • Oh Jesus. I really can't give a shit about this movie anymore. Cameron thinks he's fucking God because he directed a movie about a boat sinking. And I really don't want to see a picture of his fucking mug holding a camera.
  • It will do well, but not as well as expected. Hardly any one knows about this film and when they ask what its about, well you don't know what its about yourself. But yet this is the most anticipated movie of the year, cough joke, yeah right cough. More people know about the Avengers than Avatar and Avatar has been in pre-production for more than a decade, and Avengers aint for another few good years And currently people are getting sick of 3D films, and christmas aint a good time for films, especially for something on this so called calibur of hype, that has officially died
    4 months ago
  • It'd do well, not ridiculously well cause not a lot of people even know about the movie besides us or diehard movie goers. Whenever you work next, ask your fellow employees or whoever if they have seen anything about Avatar and people will either say no, or look at you confused as if you are talking about something else lol.

  • The reason Waterworld flopped was because the huge set they built sunk twice in a row, which ended up tripling there original estimated budget as they had to rebuild it from scratch 3 times. Otherwise it probably would have pulled through if it didn't have that problem. It's still a sucky movie, no disagreeing with that, it just failed for different reasons. I have much confidence in Cameron though, he's a top notch director, who always delivers. Though how they work out the whole distribution thing might fuck them over if they don't have 3d projectors set up. Although, I've heard they are prepping a none 3d version in post for all the theaters that don't have the equipment. I guess we'll just have to wait and see, it might very well fail if they cant distribute it outside of IMAX theaters. I don't think it will fail cause it sucks though, it be a first for Cameron, which I don't see happening.

  • Sam Worthington: short smaller pic. James Cameron/camera: huge, tall pic. God this guy is into himself. Looks cool, and will be seeing it. I'm seeing D9 tomorrow. :D And Lmao at Newkills comparisons.

  • Man, I can't fuckin wait for this film to come out! Also, can't wait for Avatar Day next week.
  • Alright, with the first image, we are getting somewhere. VIS, deffinetly, but Avatar will make more money by far than D-9. Newkill, no way this movie will be like waterworld, because it has such mystery behind the story and the effects people will go see it.
