According to
Variety, Gore Verbinski is not going to be taking the voyage in the next
Pirates of the Caribbean films.
The director recently told Disney and producer Jerry Bruckheimer that he will not be making the fourth installment that will begin production in 2010.
Johnny Depp is returning as Captain Jack Sparrow.
The current sequel is in development but has not yet obtained a greenlight.
Verbinski will instead work on
Bioshock for Universal and
Rango for Paramount Pictures. Johnny Depp will be voicing the title character in this CG-animated film. It will come out in March 2011.
"I had a fantastic time bringing
Pirates to life, and I am eternally grateful to Jerry, Johnny and the rest of the creative and production team," Verbinski stated. "I'm looking forward to all of us crossing paths again in the future."
