The Hollywood Reporter says
The Descent 2 is going forward with Celador Films and Pathe, both Britsh-run companies.
While Neil Marshall, who wrote, directed and produced
The Descent, will produce the sequel, he's handing over the writing and directing reins. James Watkins wrote the sequel and
The Descent editor Jon Harris will make his directorial debut with the sequel.
The Descent stars Shauna McDonald and Natalie Mendoze are both set to return alongside Gavan O'Herlihy, Joshua Dallas, Anna Skellern, Douglas Hodge and Krysten Cummings. The story will take place right after the first, with the survivor of the first film going back into the caves with a rescue party trying to find the rest of her group.
The sequel is being budgeted at $10 million and the eight-week shoot will take place on location in Scotland and also in London's Ealing Studios. No start date has been announced.

...once again WTF, I will see it, but I think that the story is going to be very slim and not well thought out.
This sequel will bomb!
