Rachel McAdams Up for the Black Cat in Spider-Man 4?

Source:  The Observer, Mania.com
Rachel McAdams Up for the Black Cat in Spider-Man 4While there has been recent talk about the villains in an upcoming superhero sequel, it seems there might be a feline villain in the film. Mania.com is reporting that Rachel McAdams has met with the Spider-Man 4 producers to play Felicia Hardy a.k.a. The Black Cat.

It was said that McAdams is the top contender to play the character, who starts out as a petty cat burglar in the comic books and develops an obsession with Peter Parker/Spider-Man.

The site is also reporting that the film would be a two-villain movie, with casting under way for a male villain. With the new casting, it seems that Dylan Baker's Dr. Curt Connors would not turn into the villain Lizard in this film, although Baker has revealed he will reprise his role of Curt Connors in the sequel.

Meanwhile, The Observer ran a column from actress Romola Galai, where she indicated she was vying for a role in the film as well.

"Love is at the root of everything good that has ever happened and will happen." This phrase swam into focus as I moved up the escalator at Oxford Circus tube on Tuesday morning on my way to put myself "on tape" for a part in Spider-Man 4. This is the acting equivalent of the London Marathon in that it's important to try your best as long as you understand that you aren't going to win.

Of course, it isn't clear if Galai is auditioning for the Felecia Hardy role, but at the very least, things seem to be moving forward on the film. Spider-Man 4 will go before cameras in March 2010 for a May 5, 2011 release date.

@ penguin: What rumor? Where did this come from?

November 14th, 2009 8:41am
Rumor has it that Hardy and her father will be a part of the film. Hardy's father will be the new editor in chief of the Daily Bugle. Her father will also be a part of the group "the viper" a villain group primarily from Captain America. Felicia falls in love with Peter and discovers his secret of being Spider-man. Her father is murdered and she then becomes Peter's ultimate threat.

I dont think fans wouldnt have bitched for Venom to be in the movie if he wasnt the fan favorite. They had been asking for Venom since Spiderman 1. When people think of Spiderman the first villain they think of is Venom.

November 13th, 2009 12:13am
Btw, Newkill, my statement about Venom still remains intact lol. They slid him in there for the fans, hence because he is the most popular Spiderman villian. That's why the movie did so well that opening weekend, everyone and their dog was like "omg Venom!" in the trailers lol.

Yay group hug, oh wait...nevermind. lol. I've always wanted Rhino to be a villian, he is just cool in a dumb way lol. If the movie was pointless action, he'd literally be one of the best villians to have on screen with all the downtown destruction of him throwing cars, running through buildings, smashing swat team officers lol... I could go all day with Rhino ideas. He has great action scene presense, but if you want story, heart-to-heart moral of story which has been the backbone of each Spidey film, Rhino is a bit corny to make a good story with; to make him personal would be difficult. But Sam likes story driven stuff so he'd go with a somewhat realistic villian for his film. Which is why I don't think we will see Rhino until another group of filmmakers reboots the franchise after Sam is done with it, adding on their sequels or an actual reboot of Spiderman, which would be kinda cool actually. Could you imagine if Spiderman was rated R? Not saying it would be or anything, just could you imagine the tone of the film if it was leaning towards a hard PG-13 rating or even R? That'd be nuts.

The Lizard is the only villain being used for SP4. SP5 & SP6 are rumored to have Hobgoblin, Carnage, and Venom in their story arcs as of right now.

the villian has to be Carnage/Electro/Kingpin one of the these three they are really the only big time villains left

You know what hoosierhero. My bad. I overreacted. I had a douchebag moment. Welcome to movieweb. My sincerest apologies I shouldn't have fired off on you like that.

And I agree, Rhino is too one-dimensional for this film.

All I can say is I hope for Dylan Baker to become Lizard in this, and I would love to see Mysterio, if not in this one, than in 5 or 6.

Well if Lizard isn't appearing, which Dylan Baker would truly deserve, my only thoughts on villains would be Electro or Shocker and an appearance by Kingpin.

Good point penguin. I almost forgot about the fact that Gwen Stacy was introduced in the last one! Now they are introducing Felicia! omg, Gwen, MJ, and Felicia - Spidey's 3 most-known girlfriends, and all in one film? How the heck is that gonna play out? I think they're making a mistake, again. Throwing too many characters in a film is a disaster waiting to happen, I don't care that they are not villains or whatever. Look at Stacy - she got crappy screen time in S-M3 and her character arc was nonexistent. She served no purpose. I hope it's not the same story with Felicia. It's like they are forcing her into the story, maybe they could have waited until S-M5, but then again Raimi is still not sure if this one will be his last, so I'm sure he played a part in putting her in there. Maybe it will be a setup, for Cat to appear in future installments. Whatever the case, 3 girls is too many in a film for Peter to choose from. wtf

My bad Cripple I'm new to the site. And geek, I agree that Rhino would be cool, but they dropped the ball with Sandman and, to the same degree, the comprable Juggernaut in X-Men 3. So it's kind of a hard sell to bring in a pretty one-dimensional character.

Not a bad choice but I think they could do better. The use of this character will not affect Spiderman 4 villain wise. The Lizard will be the only true primary villain used with Kingsley and Venom and Carnage substories also thrown into the mix to set up the next two installments. Im pretty sure Mary Jane will leave Peter, and Gwen Stacey will get killed with the addition of Hardy.

Newkill I also have to agree with you on Mila Kunis. Great actress. She could fit the role of Hardy fantastically.

November 10th, 2009 9:32pm
Oooh good one Newkill. Kunis looks the part and could easily act it. But I am fine if McAdams gets it.

Hoosierhero, don't pull this "no homo" shit. No one on here would care even if you are homo. A man can call another man gorgeous, James Franco is pretty hunky.

Geek, I like Rhino, but I don't think it's his time yet.

Lol, no prob Newkill. And yeah Vanboy, the Space Jockey is a very interesting side of the story we never see. I'm talking about Alien right now.

And yeah CBF, sometimes Movieweb misspells some thing. Don't be tooo hard. Lol.

November 10th, 2009 1:23pm
Maybe Mila Kunis. I don't think she gets the respect she deserves as an actress. I would say that she would be the perfect representation of Hardy. But I think McAdams is a decent choice.

Well said, Newkill, well said. Point taken. But then again, Kirsten Dunst could have been a better Gwen Stacy if we are getting down to the brass tax here, with acting abilities. Dunst is not at all a representation of the MJ from the comics. And Rachel McAdams first and foremost doesn't even look like Hardy, but I see what you were saying about spunk. I've not really seen McAdams in much save that "Red Eye" movie with Cillian Murphy, but I just thought that Cuthbert actually looked the part. Maybe she can't act, I admit I'm not a regular "24" viewer, but I have seen her in some roles. I really wonder who else is in consideration for the role if McAdams is the lead contender. That Galai is an ugly horse.

BTW MW, the name is Felicia, that's one "e", two "i"s. I swear, you guys have a horrible editing staff.

"I still feel that a sequel to Alien will create an origin in our minds, that we might not have had originally, and it will erase our own imagined world and adventure, that might have involved the origin of the Space Jockey."

Aficionado, I meant to say "prequel", not sequel. I was in a rush too.

Lol, Sorry about that Fallen, I thought you were the same guy.
Chad, your right, Venom is a popular character, but not the most, and besides popularity has nothing to do with quality. Venom was just someone thrown in just to please the fans.

CBF, I've been watching 24 for a long time and there's nothing spunky about Elisha. Everytime she's on she's being chased and getting into trouble. She's more like a meek, damsel in distress. She could've either been a Gwen Stacy or Mary Jane, but not a Felicia Hardy.

I know I'll probably get bitched at for this one.But how about the Rhino for a villain.

November 10th, 2009 12:40am
hoosier, keep your opinions to yourself mate. Black Cat sucks? Best writing staff in the world? Where did you come up with that garbage?

And Chad, yes, "24" is where we should really judge Cuthbert's true acting ability, which is quite decent, by the way.

In which she DOES show spunk, and anyone who had seen her in the series would know.

If SpiderMan hops on the "I Heart Vampires" media bandwagon, this franchise will go to shit. Nevermind that Morbius is a badass villain: it's really not the time for him, at least not yet. The only logical villain is the Lizard. They set up that story early, and to not have used it at this point is excruciating. While I agree that Mysterio or Electro would be really cool, they're way too high tech for the current superhero/supervillain trend of troubled, gritty backstory. Connor's obsession with genetic alteration speaks volumes about today's science, and the fact that it turns him into a villain not only creates an incredible story but also deals with some topical questions as well.

But most importantly, Black Cat sucks. You would have to have the best writing staff in the world craft a mildly intriguing plot to have her serve to her minimal expectations. Plus, and I'm calling "no homo" on this one, if they wanted to have eye candy, they shouldn't have gotten rid of Franco.

Newkill, Venom is the most popular Spiderman villian of all time. That's all. I'm not saying he is better than any others, just sayin'.

And why do people feel like they need to tell us that they fucked up Venom is SM3? We FUCKING KNOW, you don't need to tell us. Repeating the same fucking thing over and over. WE KNOW. Drop it.

Back to this, I've always thought McAdams was hot, so naturally, I'm happy. I'm glad to see another hot face to eventually replace MJ lol. Hopefully anyway.

And if the villian isn't The Lizard then who the fuck would it be? I don't see Morbius fitting into this storyline at all. Mysterio could. Electro could. Hobgoblin could. Carnage would be too dark for Spiderman, well in a film version anyway. Kingpin would be a stupid idea, don't even bring that up please. I'd rather see The Vulture who I hate compared to Kingpin lol. But that's just me.

Cuthbert is a hit and miss, depending on what she's doing. She is a good tease in Girl Next Door, which doesn't rely on acting really, just being a hot girl. In 24, is where she actually performs. I was quite impressed. She always has that "I'm a bitch" look on her face though, which sucks, but she isn't a bad choice either.

I gotta disagree with the Cuthbert thing. I think she's a decent actress but I never saw in any of her performances where she's shows spunk and that what Hardy character basically is.
