Michael Bay to Direct I Am Number Four?

Source:  Variety
It seems that Michael Bay is undertaking a new sci-fi venture to produce and possibly direct. According to Variety, DreamWorks is finalizing a deal for I Am Number Four, which will be the first in a six-book sci-fi novel series. Bay is currently attached to produce the film, and it was said that he may direct the film as well.

One of the more unusual developments is that one of the book's two authors was said to be James Frey, the infamous author who penned A Million Little Pieces. The book was shopped around under psedonyms, but a source for the trade indicates that Frey is one of the authors of the new book. The studio wouldn't confirm if Frey is indeed one of the authors.

The book centers on nine teenage aliens who escape their home planet right before its obliteration and head to Earth to blend in as high school kids. The title character then discovers that he is being hunted by the enemy species that destroyed his home planet. It was said that the book's publishing and screen rights were being shopped simultaneously.

Frey became embroiled in scandal when it was learned that his beloved non-fiction book, A Million Little Pieces was partially fabricated and embellished by the author.

I am a fan of movies that keep me entertained and most of Bay's films do just that.

Thank ya Fallen, I know there are 4-6 people on here that understand. All these other random people who just signed up or found their movieweb password in their email returning to the site now for some reason seem to be angry for silly things.

If this movie's box office does not meet expectations, Public Enemies is in trouble, even with the cast.

Fucking spammers.

Anyways, where was I? Oh yeah. Vis and Chad are right. They have points and valid ones at that, that support and back their opinions, and I agree. all these shitheads on here in their basements, or their families, or chasing that American dream, come on this site and get pissed off because Bay isn't chasing that dream. He has surpassed it. And you people should lay off. I mean we are all entitles to opinions but when is enough enough? For fuck's sake show me one film any of you have made or a that becomes a blockbuster and I might take it back. Movies don't become blockbusters by people hating them. Only hard core critics looking for deep story or decent acting or well thought out plots and twists hated this. This is a GUILTY PLEASURE. How people don't understand that, I have no idea.

Oh, and on Bay, his first movie, Bad Boys was an instant hit and nobody ever heard of him. What does that say? And don't say its due to the actors.

He earned $75 million for having f**ked up The Transformers just from the 1st movie, so I have all the rights to HATE him.

This sounds so fucking stupid. After the disappointment of Transformers 2, I will definetly not be checking this out.
Michael Bay only directed two good movies, Transformers and The Rock.
I have not seen Bad Boys.

See that's my point jhonny, what I said is taken out of context. There's a big difference between constructive critism and just mindless "Bay's movies are terrible" statements that don't actually back anything up lol. Anyone can say something sucks, which happens A LOT on here. I don't understand the purpose or waste of time to say something is terrible on a movie website. I'd rather discuss on certain topics how great it will look or whatever. I'm pretty sure most of the regular people on this site don't want to see endless pages of bashing. I read the comments on each topic (that I'm interested in). Too much negativity. Not saying that we should all hug trees or something haha I'm just saying be fair about things. There are much worse films and directors out there. I actually don't dislike a lot of directors, cause I think that's kinda dumb since I like most movies (obviously lol). The only person I can say I despise is Uwe Boll, that guy is a mess haha. But he has so many problems going on with him there is actual facts to back up my statement. I can list them but I'm sure you guys already know lol. Anyway, I am just saying be fair to those who have made successful films and give people a break it's not like he's not a murderer or anything.

hey CHAD...we r here 2 give or let out our opinion...whatever it may be..good or bad...it seems ur the only who's agitated about something and trying 2 create some tension by shouting at the "bay haters" as u call them...everybody has the right 2 like or dislike anybody and the right 2 express that feeling...and about "hating" Bay....i don't hate Bay...i just don't give 2 ounce of respect 2 his loud noisy pieces of crap that u call good action movie...and NO, it's not a fame thing...i never liked his work from day one...i mean BAD BOYS 1...i love Nolan,Peter Jackson and and of coarse Cameron...people that are as much or even more succsessful than Bay...than why i like their work u say?...because thay make sensible action film with good enough story and rock solid direction in story telling..their gr8 story teller 1st and foremost...like Spielberg or Tarantino...not a cg/pyromaniac like Bay...any way, take it easy..let everybody voice out thier opinion...let not force urs on everyone else.

This is a post I posted on another Bay thread. It's kinda expanding on Chad's point:

Bay is a hell of a lot better than a lot of the other "action-heavy" directors out there. Stephen Sommers...I'm sorry, but the Mummy movies are NOT that great. Roland Emmerich... do you really believe that 2012 will be anything but special effects? 2012 is based on an ancient Mayan prophecy that a lot of people believe to be true, but NO, we're gonna give it to the disaster movie guy.

The fact of the matter is Transformers doesn't HAVE to be anything but effects heavy, and for those of you who think that's ALL it offers are so fucking stupid. The dialogue is humorous and the performances are pretty good for what you all refer to as "nothing but action and special effects."

The problem is not Michael Bay. You can't blame the guy for wanting to incorporate a shit load of action in a movie about GIANT GODDAMN ROBOTS. The problem is all of you who believe you're "above the crowd" and are too smart to see a movie that relies solely on FX. Pull your fucking heads out of your asses and just watch the goddamn movie. You're no one special for not wanting to see it.

What do you people do for a living? hmmm? I'm guessing most of you have office jobs since you're on here all day. Bay may not be the greatest director on the face of the Earth, but he didn't get "lucky." He's made a toy and cartoon property into a huge and successful franchise. He was given the job to handle a property with a loyal fan following and trusted to turn it into a movie, and that's just what he did. It's more than most of you pathetic assholes can say for yourselves. And before you start in on me, I'm 16 and still getting my education. Most of you haven't made anything out of your lives and you're bashing a man for doing just that.
*******************************************************************

I haven't seen a Bay flick I wasn't at least entertained by. Not all movies need to be deep and emotional, and at least he's the best at what he does, and what he does is make action movies. Is that a bad thing? No.

You can't please anybody I guess. It seems like more and more people are hating things just to hate them. Right now, it's Bay. He's successful so people hate him. It's a fame thing. People think they are better than that person so they have to knock him down, even though they couldn't make a good movie like he has done more than once. What do you want from him guys? Seriously. He is known for action films. Do you want him to make a foreign drama movie or something? He is about eyecandy and laughs. Armeggedon is awesome. It has everything a movie should. The Island is another great movie that's unappreciated. That movie wasn't about action either. If you are gonna talk crap, at least be fair about it. If this article was talking about George Lucas and Spielberg about an upcoming movie, I wouldn't trash them because I didn't like Indy 4 (Crystal Skull). Because they have made good movies before that. So has Bay. Everyone deserves to be rightfully defended. There is no need for all this super over-the-top ridiculous shit talking I keep reading about. As if he had molested children while shooting his films lol. He is one person. Give him a fucking break already. Tell me guys, what's your deal? Are you crazy? Do you have some type of complex? Why do you sign up on movieweb to blast things? Why do you even comment on things you don't like? If you don't like it, ignore it. Don't stir the pot and try to start fights with people who like Bay's work.

Seriously guys, it's immature and irresponsible to keep up this charade. And I'm not just talking about Micheal Bay haters, this about any article inwhich I see pages of shit talking. I thought we were on here because we LOVE movies not to hear how much you HATE someone or something.
