John Schwartzman to Make Directorial Debut with Carlisle School

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Oscar-nominated cinematographer John Schwartzman will make his directorial debut on the pigskin movie Carlisle School for Walden Media. Mark Ciardi and Gordon Gray, the duo behind the sports-themed movies Miracle and The Rookie, are producing with John Fusco and Jim Crabbe.The film tells the true story of a rag-tag team of American Indian football players, led by future sports legend and Olympic gold medalist Jim Thorpe. The men attended the Carlisle Indian Industrial School, a boarding school in Pennsylvania that from 1879-1918 housed American Indians from childhood through college. The men overcame long odds in the early part of the 20th century to defeat some of the best college football teams in the nation.
