The star of Warner Bros.' Speed Racer, Emile Hirsch, will be honored as Male Star of Tomorrow at ShoWest 2008. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Hirsch will be honored at a gala set to close the exhibition.

ShoWest begins March 10 at the Bally's and Paris hotels in Los Vegas.

"ShoWest has a long-standing tradition of honoring breakout actors," ShoWest co-managing director Mitch Neuhauser said. "Since making his big-screen debut in The Dangerous Lives Of Altar Boys, Hirsch has gone on to captivate audiences and critics with his ability to immerse himself in a wide variety of characters."

Hirsh won the National Board of Review's award for a breakthrough performance and received a rising star award at this year's Palm Springs International Film Festival. He also was nominated for two SAG Awards, a Critics Choice Award and a Gotham Award for his portrayal of idealistic college graduate Christopher McCandless.

Speed Racer is a live-action adaptation of the popular cartoon of the same name, which is in turn an adaptation of the Japanese anime series Mach GoGoGo. Directed by the Wachowski Brothers, Speed Racer stars Emile Hirsch, John Goodman, Susan Sarandon, Christina Ricci, Scott Porter, Matthew Fox and Roger Allam. Speed Racer zooms into theatres May 9, 2008.
