Why are people still bringing up TDK's record when it didn't beat it?

My son, unfortunately, and not sure how this happened, likes the films. i went to see it with a friend of ours. i leaned over to ask how much longer before the movie ended... she said "five minutes" ladies and gentlemen, that might have been the longest five minutes of my life. But it helped that i fell asleep about 5 times during the film. Now in all honesty, now that i have seen the film, considering the 20 minutes of time that i missed while napping, i really have no idea how this could beat dark knight's or any movie record. i understand that there are hardcore fans... shit afterall, a film in 99, the phantom menace broke records too, and was the weakest entry in all the star wars films. Overall the effects were not that bad, but the dialogue to put in perspective was ten times worse then the dialogue between padme and anakin in attack of the clones. And the main wolf dude... well might have been the worst wig of long hair i have ever seen in a film, even joe dirt had a better flippin wig and that was a mullet for gawds sake. overall, i am with you guys, this film sucked balls. unfortunately they wouldnt give me a refund when i asked them at the box office. at least the popcorn was good though.

Aficionado, I never call women bitches like others here have, and I respect gitrls taste in it. You had huge valid points in them liking Twilight like us liking Transformers. I was saying for a movie it seemed very shallow without any action or even sexual pleasure or any kind of guilty pleasure to deserve it being called okay. Let me rephrase. It might not have "sucked" (no pun intended) but it is definitely not worth the money of millions of viewers.

And telling me to jerk off? I won't say anything to that. Unless you were to talking to someone else, then this whole thing is mistaken.

I'm angry at the fact that people's principles are so high it permits them to see a movie like they think not donating a dime to it will make a difference. TDK is a much better film, yeah, but...DUH, OF COURSE IT IS. So you can't see any movies that have the potential to break its record just because it's "less worthy?"

I'm also angry that people seem to believe that women are "bitches" for liking a movie that is aimed at them.

Yeah I saw the first film without any knowledge of the books (as in reading them anyway) just word of mouth, and I wasn't expecting to be blown away, I could see huge flaws just in the trailers. Fake special effects always ruin it for me. Every girl says it's hot, so I finally watch it, and there's not ONE sex scene... hmm... so how is it hot? If it had like an epic sex scene with Bella and Edward I could maybe UNDERSTAND why it is so "good". Girls are hornier than guys, I'm pretty sure. Girls think vampires are hot. It's just how it is. Guys like it when people get shot in the face, it's just how it is lol. I had low expectations, so the movie was 'okay' to me. It could have been awesome very easily, but it seemed lazy to me, the character dialogue, make up, effects, acting itself. And as they say, sex sells. Edward is pure sex to girls. It's like an automatic ass in the seat lol. I guess that's Megan Fox to us then eh :P ?

If this beats TDK money wise in the long run, we need to take a good look at ourselves in the mirror, and be like 'what the hell?' lol. Well, not many of you, but people who watch this movie 20 times for masterbation purposes haha.

I think Iron Man 2 will do really well, probably following in New Moon's box office footsteps. IM2 has a lot of hype.

Dark Knight proved to be a pinnacle of film making. It deserved every penny. It's hard to imagine that its records are being shattered so soon, and by THIS!

However, I'm happy to report that New Moon is officially 18 million short of The Dark Knight's first weekend record. Thank golly! :P

Makes me nervous for next summer, when Eclipse comes out. The Last Airbender will be released on the same weekend, which is sure to be a much better film than any Twilight film could ever hope to be, so Airbender may get the shaft at the box office. We'll see. Guys, take your girlfriends to the third Twilight, but buy yourself an Airbender ticket!

I saw this movie last friday. Knowing nothing about the first film or having any real knowledge of the twilight saga, and I have to say it was fucking terrible. 2 most reoccuring lines in that film "I couldn't live if you died" and "awwww". The second line was added by all the damn girls who saw this craptastic film. Personally I think they should of added that sound effect in their just to shut them up.

Here's a more simpler way of stating how bad this movie was:

George Lucas could of wrote a better romantic of this show.

It was a'ight. Like the Fallen mentioned, with no expectations, movies always seem better.

Aficionado, I read the books and saw New Moon, so I can bluntly say it sucks. The movie if you rethink it was a fail. The more I think about it the less and less entertaining it was. But if you went in with low expectations I guess movies always seems better. At least for me they do.

The movie was pretty good.

Ok...*sigh*, considering I knew this movie was going to be a record breaker it was only a matter of time...TDK was a landmark in cinema, the best there is to date (in regards to batman films), but this is a tragedy that this of all things broke that record. but as many of you stated, this is a movie for teen girls and so on, so good for the people behind this movie because this is what many young girls and women like (soap opera style love stories) there is nothing wrong with that, but I predict this will make about 150 mil this weekend and eventually make about 300 mil but it will be a SAD day in the world if this movie beats out TDK and The titanic, that will be a day where...well words cant describe. I personally cant say an actual opinion of the movie but from what Ive head from word of mouth and MMAAAANNNYY reviews it was a great movie in regards from a women's perspective (and kudos to the guy who went out with his gf to see this) but still it is difficult for all of TDK fans to digest. In my opinion if it makes more money thn TDK or The Titanic...WELL...it will be a dark day indeed.

And guys New Moon didn't beat The Dark Knight's opening weekend record (like I said it wouldn't), although it did make over $140.7 million (estimated), which is the third biggest opening in film history but like I said before it's not going to keep putting up these huge number like TDK did, it's just that simple.

True Chad, I concur with all that, including the part that Batman Begins is better than TDK. TDK has actually grown on me after seeing it so many times on HBO. But I still don't think its all its made out to be and my biggest gripe is that it could have been so much more. The only thing that really made that movie is Heath Ledger as Joker, otherwise the movie has a lot of issues that still get to me today. I do believe that Twilight is utter crap, and I'm not making an argument for it. But I remember when I was arguing the quality of TDK, one of the arguments was "how can I ignore its quality based on its box office income"

Kupo - I so agree dude. It's pretty disappointing to see quality films dwarf by blockbuster crap. Another movie thats due to come out that I'm sure no one will hear about is "That Evening Sun". Audiences these days have been so dulled down by explosions and eye candy, and garbage ass 3-D, that movies driven by stories have no place in mainstream American Cinema. Granted there is the slim minority that can enjoy both, no doubt, but you look at where the big numbers are heading its with CGI extravaganzas and such.

This movie was terrible

It's the opening weekend, of course it's making a lot of money. Every girl, even some men like it. TDK lasted a lot longer and pulled in a whole lot of money.
Still it has the possibility that New Moon might out do TDK money wise. I've read the books, the first stank, second was better and so on.
One day something else will out beat New Moon.

So whose with me in making ANY movie a lot of money in which it destroys the money records of this new moon piece of shit, I'm starting with Ninja Assassin and then with Avatar. (FUCK TWILIGHT)

To clarify, I love TDK...but all of you are acting like you're going gay because girls love something you don't give a chance. I at least read the first book, and I'm seeing New Moon today. I will have a review up later. I'm not gonna be the type who doesn't see it out of some "principle" that it may beat TDK because let's face it: it already has, or is close to it. It really doesn't matter, because if New Moon majorly sucks, I'll just tell myself TDK is still the better movie.
