Olivia Wilde and Beau Garrett Set for Tron Sequel

Source:  The Hollywood Reporter
Olivia Wilde and Beau Garrett are the first to join TR2N, director Joseph Kosinski's sequel to the 1982 Disney cult classic, Tron.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sean Bailey is producing along with Steven Lisberger, who co-wrote and directed the original film, and Jeff Silver.

The original, about a programmer thrust into a computer and forced to fight in games he helped create, is remembered for its sci-fi gladiator-style battles and groundbreaking special effects.

The new movie is acting as a "next chapter." Plot details are being guarded closely, but Wilde will play a worker in the virtual world who tries to help fight Master Control Program, the villainous intelligence protocol that was the nemesis in the original film.

Garrett will play a siren in the virtual world.

The male lead has not been cast, but the studio and filmmakers are screen-testing actors as it brings on other leads and supporting players.

TR2N is eyeing a spring shoot and is shaping up as one of the studio's most anticipated projects in years. Kosinski shot reels to test technology and showcase his vision for the film; the footage screened at Comic-Con in July and was one of the most buzzed-about films coming out of the geekfest.

I'm excited to see the clean trailer on this one. I love the original, and if Jeff Bridges is going to be involved, this can't be that bad.

The original Tron was a very cool movie with groundbreaking computer animation. The test trailer featuring an updated light cycle race hints at the new level that looked great, even in that poor resolution copy on YouTube.

Jeff Bridges is back too, adding more legitimacy to this project.

Hollywood has been outta ideas for years. Which is why anything that was cool in the 80's will most likely be made into a movie, or be remade.. Early 90's is coming up soon so lookout for "Widget The World Watcher Movie" and "Denver: The Last Dinosaur Movie"

OMG- everyday I read news like this and it pisses me off. Seriously- a sequel to TRON? Is this really something fans have been demanding? Hollywood is officially out of new ideas.

I agree with Diaigma, could be good or absolutely fantastic. Could be really bad too, we will just have to see.

The original is up there with 'The Black Hole' as my favourite sci-films of the 80's.

Hmmm...

Could be good, or so fantastic that it will blow the 25+ year old predecessor out of the... well... cyber-water?
