Sam Raimi Updates Us About Spider-Man 4 & 5

Source:  SCI FI Wire
Sam Raimi's possible involvement with Spider-Man 4 has been uncertain for some time now, but the director of the first three films featuring Marvel's web-slinging hero has said that he's waiting to see the script by James Vanderbilt to determine whether or not he intends to direct. Raimi spoke to SCI FI Wire about where he sees the future films going.

"Right now James Vanderbilt is writing the script, and he's working on it, and I'm excited to read it," Raimi said. "I think it's going to be done in a few months. I'm hoping it's as great as our discussions were about it and hoping it feels right for me, because I love Spider-Man, and I'm hoping I'm well-enough rested to, like, really embrace it and hoping that Sony wants me at that time to direct it. So if all those things come together, I would love, love to do it. But this is a lot of unknowns about the future."

Raimi also said that he couldn't see recasting the roles of either Peter Parker/Spider-Man (Toby Maguire) or Mary Jane Watson (Kirsten Dunst). While his assurance that he didn't wish to recast either role isn't exactly the same as a confirmation of their return, both actors had previously said that their involvement in future films in the series would be dependent on Raimi returning as director.

Venom is dead, the symbiote may still be alive via the sample in Doc Connors' lab, but chances are that will become the Carnage symbiote, playing with the idea of Venom's offspring. However, it is unknown whether the studio will want another symbiote storyline, as Marvel pushed for Venom in Spider-Man 3 and look what became of that. Another symbiote might feel too much like a recycled story for Spider-Man 4. It will be interesting to learn the details of Vanderbilt's script within the next few months.

i know this is not the page, but i hope that marvel movies also bring inhumans to the big screen, and get them to fight against either thanos, the watcher or galactus(to make upfor the lack of face in "rise of the silver surfer")!!! that would sell tickets!!

Right, I realize this is an old thread but I think it re-establishes my point that Spider-Man films 4 and 5 will be filmed consecutively. Raimi considers taking up the role of director by waiting to read James Vanderbilt's script, Tobey Maguire puts to rest rumors that he will not return, Dunst says she will return if Tobey & Raimi are back, and Dylan Baker is anxiously hoping to portray The Lizard.

In fact, Raimi confirms that we will see The Lizard in Spider-Man 4 if he is director. I think that with James Vanderbilt at the helm of story, the next Spidey flicks could definitely go in a different direction than its predecessors, albeit darker directions.

The Sony studios have made good on -A-: scaling back the next film to TWO villains, and -B-: Vanderbilt's treatment which would require the filming of 4 and 5 back-to-back. I say we might know by October if Raimi indeed decides to direct.

PS. The Spidey flicks have potential, look at how well Spider-Man 2 was done. Just because 3 had some bad points does not mean a franchise is halted. Look at Superman for example. Superman III wasn't too good, but then they made Superman IV: The Quest for Peace regardless. Also, saying that Raimi will leave the franchise is like Nolan giving up his Batman Begins franchise. Won't happen.

Spiderman 3 kept the franchise from reaching it's full potential, the build up was so huge that seeing an emo dancing superhero disappointed everyone. If that was Raimi's idea they need to look elsewhere for a director. Spiderman was a stream line story. Keeping close to the comic and feeding to the fans and then came Hollywood, to try to appeal to 20% of the posing fan base. Just because someone changes their hairstyle doesn't mean they start dancing in the streets. They ruined Spidey's #1 villian by allowing Grace to speak while in the costume, if the suit takes over why does the face peel back every time they speak. Don't even get me started. To make a long story short Marvel needs to buy back all of their properties before Hollywood tarnishes them all.
