Sam Raimi's possible involvement with
Spider-Man 4 has been uncertain for some time now, but the director of the first three films featuring Marvel's web-slinging hero has said that he's waiting to see the script by James Vanderbilt to determine whether or not he intends to direct. Raimi spoke to
SCI FI Wire about where he sees the future films going.
"Right now James Vanderbilt is writing the script, and he's working on it, and I'm excited to read it," Raimi said. "I think it's going to be done in a few months. I'm hoping it's as great as our discussions were about it and hoping it feels right for me, because I love
Spider-Man, and I'm hoping I'm well-enough rested to, like, really embrace it and hoping that Sony wants me at that time to direct it. So if all those things come together, I would love, love to do it. But this is a lot of unknowns about the future."
Raimi also said that he couldn't see recasting the roles of either Peter Parker/Spider-Man (Toby Maguire) or Mary Jane Watson (Kirsten Dunst). While his assurance that he didn't wish to recast either role isn't exactly the same as a confirmation of their return, both actors had previously said that their involvement in future films in the series would be dependent on Raimi returning as director.

In fact, Raimi confirms that we will see The Lizard in Spider-Man 4 if he is director. I think that with James Vanderbilt at the helm of story, the next Spidey flicks could definitely go in a different direction than its predecessors, albeit darker directions.
The Sony studios have made good on -A-: scaling back the next film to TWO villains, and -B-: Vanderbilt's treatment which would require the filming of 4 and 5 back-to-back. I say we might know by October if Raimi indeed decides to direct.
PS. The Spidey flicks have potential, look at how well Spider-Man 2 was done. Just because 3 had some bad points does not mean a franchise is halted. Look at Superman for example. Superman III wasn't too good, but then they made Superman IV: The Quest for Peace regardless. Also, saying that Raimi will leave the franchise is like Nolan giving up his Batman Begins franchise. Won't happen.
She's still hot...
Dunst never ever loked hot.
And the first two was great. the third one was so baaaaaaaaaaaad.
I really hope they make the new once a little bit more brutal and darker.
Fuck off
