Jennifer Connelly has just come aboard the 20th Century Fox remake of
The Day the Earth Stood Still. According to
Variety, Keanu Reeves is also starring in this modernized take on the old classic.
Scott Derrickson will be directing a screenplay by David Scarpa, which is based on an earlier draft by Ryne Douglas. The story will remain true to the original film. A group of aliens land on Earth with a dire message: Live in peace or be destroyed. Connelly will play Helen Benson, a role occupied by Patricia Neal in the original.
The film will begin principle photography in Vancouver this December.

I don't have anything against remakes, especially when they turn out better than the originals. I would just like to see more original ideas come out.
By the way, I just read recently that Jaden Smith, Will Smith's son, got the part of Connelly's step-son.
